Rutgers University has received a $3.2 million The National Institutes of Health grant to investigate the impact of micronanoplastics—tiny particles from industrial and environmental processes on the digestive system and overall health. These plastics, now present in our food, air, and water, are an emerging health concern, especially for vulnerable populations like those with inflammatory bowel diseases. The five-year study will assess how plastic type, size, and chemistry influence toxicity, intestinal inflammation, and the risks of ingestion. By generating critical data, the research aims to guide policymakers and risk assessors, laying the groundwork for regulatory action and advancing knowledge in toxicology and environmental health.???? #research #rutgershealth
