关于我们
Since its founding in 1936 as a nonprofit publisher, Rutgers University Press has been dedicated to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge to scholars, students, and the general reading public. An integral part of one of the leading public research and teaching universities in the United States, the Press reflects and is essential to the University’s missions of research, instruction, and service. To carry out these goals, we publish books in print and electronic format in a broad array of disciplines across the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Fulfilling our mandate to serve the people of New Jersey, we also publish books of scholarly and popular interest on the state and surrounding region. Working with authors throughout the world, we seek books that meet high editorial standards, facilitate the exchange of ideas, enhance teaching, and make scholarship accessible to a wide range of readers. The Press’s overriding ambition is nothing less than to help make the world better, one book at a time, through a publication program of superior scholarship and popular appeal. The Press celebrates and affirms its role as a major cultural institution that contributes significantly to the ideas that shape the critical issues of our day.

We’re delighted to publish Erica Machulak’s book. Order your copy from better booksellers or direct from us.
I am delighted to share that my new book, Hustles for Humanists: Build a Business with Purpose, is now available for preorder from Rutgers University Press (forthcoming April 2025). Part framework, part phrase book, and part field guide, Hustles for Humanists draws together language and learnings from entrepreneurship, design thinking, knowledge mobilization, and public scholarship. It is designed to help you think more expansively about your options and design your next steps on your terms. My hope is that the tools and strategies provided will help you make your own discoveries with intention and confidence. This is the book that I wish I could have read in my final years of graduate school, when I was struggling to imagine what my next steps could look like beyond the academy. It’s the book that I wish I could have reread a year or so after graduation, when I had published a couple of freelance articles with the National Endowment for the Humanities and built more confidence in my professional voice. Finally, it’s the book I wish I could have read at the start of the pandemic, when, after holding several staff roles in higher ed, I decided to quit my job and launch Hikma. At each stage, I needed not only practical advice but also a framework to help me build my own process and chart my own path. Hustles and Humanists is all the more beautiful and engaging thanks to Foreword Author Crystal Marie Moten, PhD, Illustrator Sophia van Hees, PhD, Rutgers UP editor Peggy Solic and so many others who have read drafts and shared insights behind the scenes. Now booking talks and workshops! If you're interested, please connect with me here or via the Hikma website. Links in the comments below. #NewBook #Entrepreneurship #ProfessionalDevelopment

"Every American should want to live in a strong community with a strong library. Not everyone can afford access to books, to the internet, to literacy. It's amazing when you think about the impact of libraries. We are a safety net in our communities." — ALA President Cindy Hohl on libraries' role as public assets and places where all people should feel seen, heard, and welcomed. https://lnkd.in/g8QVEfnv

Read Barbara Smith’s firsthand account of her peaceful protest in Chicago during the 1968 Democratic convention. With peaceful demonstrations across college campuses today and inevitable protests at the upcoming Democratic convention in Chicago in August, Barbara Smith’s short essay—“Chicago Firsthand” (a selection from "The Truth That Never Hurts")—is amazingly prescient today. https://lnkd.in/euCBqRgU #Palestine #PeacefulProtests #Gaza
