???High quality child care improves long-term health, educational outcomes, and future earning potential for children, especially in families with low incomes, yet few NJ families can afford high quality care. ? ?????????????????We are proud to be a founding member of New Jersey’s statewide First 1,000 Days Policy Coalition, which works to ensure that all NJ families with young children have a strong foundation during their child’s critical early years, like access to safe, nurturing, consistent early care and education that best suits the needs of their child and family. ? ???We’re partnering with organizations and leaders from across the state, including the?Advocates for Children of New Jersey,?Moms First, the?Council of New Jersey Grantmakers, and many others, with funding and support from? The Burke Foundation,?Turrell Fund,?Maher Charitable Foundation,?Schumann Fund for New Jersey, and the?Henry and Marilyn Taub Foundation ? ???Working together, we’ll make New Jersey a state that values children and families, with policies that create cycles of opportunity across generations. ? ???Read more about the First 1,000 Days Policy Coalition here:?https://bit.ly/4gBhvSG.

We're so thrilled to have Sarah F Small, PhD at Rutgers to share her amazing new work. We hope to see you there. RSVP today: bit.ly/3Mm83EP?
Very excited to share new research (coauthored with the wonderful Eunice Han) at Rutgers in a few weeks! A little preview: union coverage, education, and experience played big roles in job retention, wages, and WFH opportunities for preschool and kindergarten teachers during the pandemic. Can't wait to hear comments from the brilliant folks at the National Institute for Early Education Research, Rutgers University Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, and (my personal favorite) Rutgers University - Center for Women and Work!

??Shockingly high: 1.7 million NJ employees could lose jobs for taking family leave New research by Rutgers University - Center for Women and Work reveals a critical issue for working families: 1.7 million New Jersey workers lack job protection for family leave.?And for 1.15 million of those workers, it’s because they’ve been in their job less than a year or worked fewer than 1,000 hours. That’s more than 27% of the state’s workforce who risk being fired if they need to take time off for maternity leave or to care for loved ones. ???Less than 1 year with an employer or fewer than 1,000 hours worked = no job protection. ?? Those most affected are often young, female, and earning lower-incomes. ?? Employees working in healthcare support, food preparation, and education instruction & library occupations are more likely to lack job protection. This study highlights the need for equitable access to family leave policies that benefit every New Jersey worker.
