Encouraging community-building among AAPI Rutgers Law School-Newark students through mentorship and guidance
关于我们
Founded in 1976, the Asian & Pacific American Law Student Association ("APALSA") is a student affinity group with students throughout the Asian continent. APALSA fosters and encourages community building among AAPI students by encouraging mentorship among its members. APALSA promotes events that elevate discussion on contemporary AAPI matters, particularly with those that intersect with the legal field. APALSA is a bridge for students and attorneys. We work with various AAPI bar associations to promote and advance legal careers for the AAPI community. In addition, we work with different affinity groups throughout Rutgers to build the same strong relationships that the People's Electric Law school was built on. The purpose of this page is to further build connections and strengthen community between current students and those who have embarked on their paths beyond Rutgers Law School.

Rutgers Law School’s APALSA was honored to partner with Rutgers Law School Newark Alumni Association to host a Nontraditional Careers in Law Panel for our student body, aimed at showcasing diverse career paths beyond traditional law practice and illustrating the many ways a J.D. can lead to fulfilling careers. We were thrilled to hear from Babatunde P. Odubekun, Vice President and Counsel at CleanCapital, who shared insights on his dynamic in-house career path and emphasized the power of networking; Joy P., Policy Lead at Google, who discussed her experience in policy work on cutting-edge issues like generative AI and hate speech, and her journey to finding roles that aligned with her passions; and Maritza Rodríguez, Esq., who inspired us with her journey of founding her own firm and thriving as a solo practitioner. APALSA Co-Presidents Devansh Sheth and Patrick Timney moderated the panel with engaging questions that illuminated these unique career paths. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this event a success. We look forward to seeing you at future APALSA events as we continue exploring the many paths a legal career can offer!

Rutgers Law School’s APALSA and SALSA hosted a wonderful Diwali celebration this year! We were honored to welcome Dr. Vineet Chander, the nation’s first Hindu Chaplain and Assistant Dean of Religious Life at Princeton University, as our keynote speaker. Dr. Chander shared valuable insights on the significance of Diwali and offered guidance on how law students can integrate ancient wisdom into their lives. The celebration also featured an incredible performance by the Ehsaas Dance Team, a co-ed Bollywood dance group of talented Rutgers and NJIT undergraduate and graduate students. Their energy and grace brought the spirit of Diwali to life! Wishing everyone a joyful (if slightly belated) Diwali!
