Did you know that an inordinate number of Russian pastors enter into ministry from hard places? Hear from Pastor George: "I was raised in a family that suffered under the Soviet regime. My formative years were framed by learning and absorbing the malice that that dark administration spawned. I too, hated and despaired and made horrible choices which landed me in prison for 17 years. But the Lord saw me and saved me there. He gave me true freedom through repentance. Before that time, I had never seen a Bible, nor even heard of the word, "Gospel" because for decades it was illegal to speak of such a word - Communist Russia had declared religion dead. Through the miracle of Jesus, he filled my dark heart in that dark prison with light - so much so that I desired to preach and teach others about the Grace that is available through Christ Jesus. I began missionary work in Krasnodar and labored for the Lord for many years in many regions of the Urals. Twenty years, one wife, and four children later, we have planted a church in Nizhnyaya Tura where there once was no church. To strengthen me in this work, I came to understand that I needed deeper theological training, and I have almost completed my Bachelor of Church Ministry degree at Moscow Theological Seminary. It is also my joy to return to the prisons, now as an evangelist. There are so many there who are seeking the Lord and desire to hear the Gospel." Did you know that Russia is incredibly ethnically diverse? There is an impressive 186 different people groups currently living in Russia. People group names like the Bashkir, the Siberian Tatar, the Kunzakh Avar, and the Yakut, represent just a handful of this wide diversity, yet they are also emblematic of those who are predominantly "unreached" and claim either a "non-religious" status or belief in Islam. With the "progress level" needle in the graph moving from red (unreached) to yellow (superficially reached), more and more unreached people are hearing the Gospel and we are thankful to God for this answer to prayer! And Russian Leadership Ministries remains committed to moving that needle further into the dark green as the Lord guides! Besides Moscow, we are currently working in 9 other far-flung regional training centers across Russia where Russian ministry leaders receive theological training and mentoring to equip them for this vital evangelistic task.
