Rush University Medical Center is an academic medical center that includes a 671-bed hospital serving adults and children, the 61-bed Johnston R. Bowman Health Center and Rush University. Rush University is home to one of the first medical colleges in the Midwest and one of the nation's top-ranked nursing colleges, as well as graduate programs in allied health, health systems management and biomedical research. The medical center also offers more than 70 highly selective residency and fellowship programs in medical and surgical specialties and subspecialties. For more than 170 years, Rush has been leading the way in developing innovative and often life-saving treatments. Today, Rush is a thriving center for basic and clinical research, with physicians and scientists involved in hundreds of research projects developing and testing the effectiveness and safety of new therapies and medical devices. Thank you to Drew Dominik, of Oak Forest, whose recent golf outing raised $2,500 to support breast cancer research at Rush. This is the third year Dominik has held the growing outing, started to show love and support for his grandmother, Sue Humbles, who was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. "My grandma has always been there for us and always made me feel special,” Dominik said. “This golf outing is all about coming together to celebrate her." Humbles saw Melody Cobleigh, MD, at Rush for a second opinion in 2017 and has been under her expert care ever since. “Dr. Cobleigh literally saved my life,” Humbles said. “She designed a treatment plan that has let me have a good quality of life, allowing me to play golf, spend time with my kids and grandkids and take vacations — even to Italy. Dr. Cobleigh also improved my mental well-being, which I believe is as crucial as the medical treatment.”
