Rural areas have long suffered from a lack of institutional support and investment in animal welfare and social services as a whole. However, that does not mean that rural pets and people are less in need or deserving of professional, impactful, life-affirming services from their animal welfare agencies and organizations. Investment in developing and supporting rural organizations must become a national priority. A priority that recognizes the unique challenges faced by generational underfunding, lack of professional development, and isolation from resources.
This is why I am thrilled to announce the founding of Rural Humane . Rural Humane is the first and only consulting and operational support organization focused on rural areas and organizations. Recognizing the unique challenges these vital institutions face, Rural Humane is committed to providing unparalleled leadership development, best practices, and process consulting specifically tailored to the needs of rural communities. Our mission is to elevate the standards of care, operational efficiency, and sustainability in rural animal welfare, ensuring that every shelter, regardless of location, has the tools and guidance necessary to thrive. With a deep understanding of the distinctive obstacles and opportunities within rural settings, Rural Humane seeks to become a beacon of support and innovation, transforming the landscape of animal welfare in underserved areas.
I cannot express how excited I am to take this step. Over the last couple of years, I have been privileged to watch as rural needs have gained more attention. That attention has clarified how far behind many rural areas have been left. Delivering the service and care these communities deserve will require a significant investment of time, resources, and people-power.
Rural Humane will leverage industry expertise with practical rural experience to enable effective support of rural organizations. Rural Humane's services, including on-site assistance, training, and educational programs, are currently being developed.
