Rural Electric Supply Cooperative (RESCO)

The EUSCO team is set up and ready to meet with attendees during this evening’s Exhibitor Reception at the 2024 Minnesota Power Systems Conference at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Conducted by the University of Minnesota College of Continuing & Professional Studies, the three-day conference focuses on the unique challenges faced by electric utilities in the Midwest and features concurrent sessions on substations, utility industry futures, delivery systems, project management, relaying, distribution automation/communications, safety and security, metering, power generation, and tutorials. Representing the EUSCO team at the conference are Robin Doege, EUSCO vice president; Derek Murray, AMI and metering manager; and Bob Jenson, sales engineer. Joining the team at the EUSCO booth are representatives from Buzz Solutions, one of our manufacturer partners.

Team members at our Middleton, WI facility enjoyed an office lunch prior to today’s fall employee update meeting, during which RESCO President and CEO Matt Brandrup discussed the state of our cooperative, shared new announcements, and looked at what’s ahead for the coming year. Joining the Middleton team for the virtual meeting were fellow team members from throughout our service regions.?

The current class of industry professionals participating in the NRECA Management Internship Program (MIP) visited our Middleton, WI office and warehouse this afternoon, where RESCO President and CEO Matt Brandrup and Vice President of Sales and Manufacturer Relations Doug Booher spoke about the benefits of our cooperative model and current trends impacting products and materials. Conducted at the Fluno Center for Executive Education in Madison, MIP is a comprehensive, six-week program that provides in-depth analysis of the functions and processes of co-op management.?

Meet the EUSCO Team Derek Murray EUSCO AMI & Metering Manager Question: Tell me about your role at EUSCO. Answer: I am now the AMI and metering manager. I started out as meter specialist, helping members with technical issues related to meters and software. In my newer role, I still help with technical issues, but also handle more of our relationship with Aclara, including orders. Q: How long have you been with the company? A: Since April 2020. Q: What do you enjoy most about your job? A: It is different every day. I cover all states in our territory, so I never know who will call and what issue they might have. Some are easy simple fixes, and some are more complicated. Q: How has EUSCO helped in your career development? A: It has given me the ability to work with many utilities, co-ops and municipalities. I enjoy meeting lots of people around the states, in a field that I enjoy working in. Q: What are your hobbies and passions? A: My wife and I are both into cars. We enjoy going to car shows, especially when we take my prized possession, a 1992 Nissan Skyline GTR. I like to play video games, although I don’t very often anymore, now that we have a two-year-old. I also enjoy four-wheeling, skiing/snowboarding (I do both), snowmobiling, and wakeboarding. Q: What is something people don’t know about you? A: I am a cancer survivor. I had Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma when I was 25 years old. Also, my favorite music is electronic dance; I have seen deadmau5 in concert four times. Q: What is something you can’t live without? A: My wife and son. And probably Mountain Dew and Doritos, even though I know they are horrible for me. Q: If you could be any movie character, who would you choose and why? A: I think I would say Deadpool. He kind of has everything. He’s a superhero that doesn’t play by the rules. He has a sword and a gun, and he can’t die. And he is played by Ryan Reynolds, who seems to be a pretty cool guy himself.
