Our new report with The Health Foundation shows how structural racism operates across our labour market, housing systems and the lived environment, limiting a person’s opportunity to be healthy. A credible agenda for improving health needs to understand and address the role of structural racism as a determinant of health.? Read it here ?? https://lnkd.in/gMT4BBzU

Excluded from putting on Black live events? Have your say! Black and Asian-led events are being shut down, over-policed, and denied licenses—while others go ahead without question. For too long, there’s been no data to prove what we already know. Now, that’s changing. The?REMEL (Race Equality in Music Events Licensing) survey?is the first of its kind, collecting real evidence to push for fairer licensing policies and protect Black and Asian artists, promoters, and venues. The system is broken.?REMEL is here to challenge it. Your voice is the missing piece. We need your stories to create change. Take the survey now. This research is sponsored by the Mayor of London?, and?Black Lives in Music?has commissioned the?Runnymede Trust?to gather evidence. Together we will challenge unfair practices, influence government policy, and push for a fairer licensing system. Also in partnership with Musicians' Union, UK Music Ltd and LIVE (Live music Industry Venues and Entertainment) ???blim.org.uk/change #StopEventCancellations #StopBlackEventCancellations #BlackLivesinMusic #FairLicensingForAll #REMELSurvey

Our own Serena Robinson is running the London marathon and raising money for us and the work we do for racial justice in Britain You can donate to her here: https://lnkd.in/euxiqniZ
Hello people of Linkedin, It's been a month of political turmoil, both here in the UK and across the pond in the US... Across the world in fact. With Tech billionaire freaks doing nazi salutes to islamophobia and anti-semitism rising here in the UK, the world is a continually scary place, particularly for those of colour. The work we do at Runnymede Trust uncovers the current thoughts, feelings and sentiments of those who are impacted by structural racism with the aim of working towards a more racially just Britain - it's no easy feat. In honour of the organisation I work at, I will be the running the London Marathon in 13 weeks, on the 27th April. I would be very grateful if people were able to share this post and maybe donate if you have the means as I am looking to raise £1,000 that will go towards the research we do at Runnymede. https://lnkd.in/euxiqniZ Have a lovely day everyone and look after yourselves x

Six months on from the racist riots, our new report highlights the role that media and politicians play in fuelling this violence. We show how the ‘hostile environment’ is not a new approach to immigration, but a continuation of a long history of racist, xenophobic immigration policies - designed to exclude people of colour. It is a form of modern racism, designed to keep as many people of colour and ethnically minoritised people as possible out of the UK, without appearing to be racist. In parliamentary debates and media reporting, negative terms like “illegal”, “flood” and “influx” are persistently used in association with migrants, posing them as a threat, dangerous and outsiders. The word “illegal” is in the top five most strongly associated words with ‘migrant’. Politicians and the media cannot continue to deny their role in pushing harmful narratives. We urge them to take meaningful action to eliminate racist hate speech - among public figures and in the media - and we call on the government to end ‘hostile environment’ immigration policies once and for all.
