As LLMs get better, the gulf in quality between good and bad applications is getting larger, not smaller. This might be a little counterintuitive — if the foundation models are getting smarter, doesn't that mean that every application is getting smarter too? Yes, but only to an extent. Two other things matter: 1. Your use of data. If you find the right data and analyze it well, your application will get better. If you're using the wrong data, your application will seem more and more out of touch. 2. Your use of models. Compound AI systems are here to stay, and compounding use of smarter models looks way better than single large LLM calls. There are plenty of good applications out there, and it makes the bad ones look so much sillier.

LLMs do everything they can to be helpful, which is generally great... until it goes horribly wrong. That failure mode becomes painful when you're building high-quality applications: You can't trust LLMs to solve a complex problem directly. What we've found in building RunLLM is that: (1) you have to carefully structure your asks to avoid the over-helpfulness; and (2) you need to enforce strong guardrails. Despite all the hype about AI, very few companies are really on the cutting edge of AI — but Arize AI is one of them. RunLLM's been working with them for 6 months now, and we've learned a lot about how they approach technical support. We've been able to cut resolution times in half and reduce support overhead by a quarter. Read more in our case study:

For the last few days, we've been talking about the features that make RunLLM the best AI Support Engineer on the market. All these features have been guided by our experiences using other apps and building RunLLM. To close out the week, we wanted to share how we think about building AI applications. The principles that guide us are: 1. Anticipating your needs 2. Knowing our limits 3. Simplifying when we can 4. Doing work for you Read more about how that works in RunLLM: https://lnkd.in/gK6MWqKP

Something that's surprised us over the past year is that a user base with access to a trustworthy AI Support Engineer asks up to 10x as many questions as they did before. Why? A variety of reasons — avoiding embarrassment for "silly" questions, having to wait for a person to respond, or not wanting to bother support. That means that all the extra questions RunLLM (sometimes 5k a week!) uncovers are a treasure trove of interesting trends and patterns. We turn those raw questions into insights that help you better understand your customers. RunLLM identifies common topics in customer questions, extracts use cases, and flags issues with your documentation. An AI Support Engineer's most important job is, of course, supporting your customers. Doing that well requires a lot more than providing a simple question-answer interface. With yesterday's public beta launch, we've released a revamped support experience that's singularly focused on getting your users the best answer. That means that RunLLM now does everything from sharing multiple possible solutions to searching the internet to executing & validating code. RunLLM is the support engineer you'll wonder how your team lived without. Most AI products today are reactive. They wait for a question, generate a response, and then disappear. RunLLM is different. It’s not just about automation. It’s about having a trusted teammate who lightens the load, helps users succeed, and makes your entire support org more effective. Technical support is a business driver. RunLLM helps scale it the right way.

The rate of acceleration of LLM quality has led to concerns about how AI applications differentiate themselves. The short answer is that your use of LLMs isn't (and probably never was) a moat. What matters is: - User experience — AI products *should* feel like magic - Integrations and workflows — meet your users where they are * Data — applications have the opportunity to build fascinating datasets, and it remains to be seen how they're used AI is an incredibly powerful tool, but it's still a tool. Using AI is not a differentiator — using AI well is. More below ?? https://lnkd.in/eKmZa6zm
