Her talk, "When Biology Talks Math: Cost Functions and Constraints in the Design of Vascular Networks," explored how mathematical principles shape the design and function of biological transport networks, highlighting the intricate connection between biology and optimization criteria. From the work of the heart in circulatory systems to the fluid-structure interactions in our lymphatic system, Dr. Katifori's insights left us all electrified! One of my favorite things about teaching a Spanish conversation and composition course at Rutgers University - Camden is how it lends itself to discuss current issues that matter to our students. It also allows us to make connections between the class content and the “outside” world by (re)introducing local spaces that students might be unaware of -or not have the time to enjoy. Today, my class visited the Alonzo Adams exhibit at the Stedman Gallery (https://lnkd.in/eUnwnwVV) to connect his emotional paintings with our module on Representation of POC in media and art.
