https://lnkd.in/gV3cGH4j The RAF is dedicated to expanding the knowledge base for rubberized asphalt materials and technologies. The RAF Board of Directors was pleased to recognize the Leadership in Conservation and Sustainability of the Alabama Department of Environmental Management, Dept of Conservation and Natural Resources, and AL State Parks to provide the opportunity to introduce new technologies to the Alabama road paving community. Five major Alabama asphalt mix producers and the National Center for Asphalt Technology in Auburn, Alabama have gained experience with the “Next Generation Dry Process” technology through these efforts. The next-generation technologies address issues from the past. Rubber particulate is processed to a fine grind, 20 mesh or smaller, and dosed at a lower percentage to integrate into and modify the asphalt binder while mixing. The small rubber particles can fit into standard dense graded mixes. The rubber powder is engineered, coated and combined with other asphalt additives or reacted with extender oils to reduce binder absorption and post-manufactured swelling for better compaction. Congratulations to the leaders that made these projects happen.

Members of the Rubberized Asphalt Foundation have been pleased to be involved in several innovative projects brought to life by the Michigan grant program. We look forward to the publishing of the research that has been conducted on these rubberized engineering materials. This article is an overview of the program. We encourage all tire programs to fund rubberized asphalt projects to build sustainable infrastructure assets that last longer and reduce emissions and costs over time.
Making Strides in Michigan's Tire Recycling: I'm proud to be part of Michigan's tire recycling initiative, a collaborative effort with local road commissions and EGLE. Together, we're turning old tires into valuable materials for roads and construction, showcasing the power of partnership in environmental progress. This is a big step towards a sustainable Michigan.
Thousands of tires hitting Michigan roads may someday be in them
