In 2024 RTR Survey completed 8 substation laser scan projects, utilizing our Trimble X7. For 7 of those projects, a substation plan was drafted from the point cloud data. A substation plan is shown and redacted for privacy purposes (the plan is associated with the first point cloud shown in the video). More than half of North America could face energy shortfalls over the next 5 to 10 years due to skyrocketing electricity demand and the retirement of aging generators, according to NERC’s latest 10-year outlook. With summer demand expected to rise by over 122 GW—an increase of 15.7%—the grid is facing unprecedented strain, largely driven by data centers, transportation electrification, and new manufacturing facilities. At RTR, we understand that as demand grows, so does the need for advanced infrastructure to ensure energy remains accessible for all.
