The Rancho Santiago Community College District (RSCCD) is responsive to the educational needs of its ever-changing community and provides programs and services that reflect academic excellence. Santa Ana College and Santiago Canyon College are public community colleges of RSCCD, which serve the residents of Anaheim Hills, East Garden Grove, Irvine, Orange, Santa Ana, Tustin and Villa Park. Both colleges provide education for academic transfer and careers, courses for personal and professional development, customized training for business and industry, and programs to train nurses, firefighters and law enforcement personnel.

Career education is thriving in our region, thanks to strong partnerships between schools, colleges, and industry leaders.     Santiago Canyon College joins the California Community Colleges in celebrating Career Education Month this February and these programs' impact on the state’s workforce and economy. Meet Rachel Davis, a proud SCC Water Utility Science graduate who now works as a Water Loss Control Programs Supervisor at the Municipal Water District of Orange County AND teaches future water professionals as an adjunct faculty member at SCC! How It Started: A watershed management presentation sparked Rachel’s passion for the vital role of water systems. At SCC, hands-on courses and experienced professors prepared them for success in the field. Career Impact: Now at the Municipal Water District of Orange County, Rachel helps local agencies detect & prevent leaks, saving water, protecting infrastructure, and ensuring compliance with state regulations. Giving Back as a Faculty Member: "I love seeing my students grow and succeed. Several of my former students are now working in water conservation at Orange County Agencies.” Advice for Future Water Professionals: “Meet as many people in the industry as possible. Many conferences offer student registration rates, that is a great way to network. Stay curious and work hard towards your goal.”

Meet Monique, Code Enforcement. Monique’s passion for serving her community inspired her to pursue a career in Code Enforcement. She discovered SCC’s program, which provided the flexibility, practical coursework, and networking opportunities she needed to succeed. Why Code Enforcement? Monique wanted a career where she could make a difference, and being a Code Enforcement Officer allows that. She’s dedicated to helping the community and enhancing the quality of life for residents and businesses. Making an Impact Now working in the City of Costa Mesa, Monique finds her job incredibly rewarding—seeing positive changes in the community firsthand keeps her motivated every day. Her Advice for Women Entering Code Enforcement "It’s never too late to invest in yourself! I didn’t have a normal path into college due to being a single teen mom at the age of 16 and graduating high school as an adult, but I was determined to give myself and my kids a better life, by getting an education and joining the certification program course that Santiago Canyon College had to offer. These courses opened up new doors to new opportunities, no matter your past. You are capable and your experience makes you stronger.” What’s Next?     Santiago Canyon College was thrilled to have Rancho Santiago Community College District Trustee David Crockett as a keynote speaker as part of the college's Black History Month events. Trustee Crockett spoke about his roots growing up in rural Virginia, his community college experience and his background leading him to being one of only five Black/African American elected officials in Orange County. He also answered questions from students and offered advice on success. "You can't figure out where you want to go without a map. Figure it out."

    Santiago Canyon College joins the California Community Colleges in celebrating Career Education Month this February and these programs' impact on the state’s workforce and economy. Student Spotlight: Jeffrey, Water & Wastewater Technology Meet Jeffrey, a proud SCC Water & Wastewater Technology student who turned curiosity into a fulfilling career in the water industry! How It Started: "I didn’t have a plan after high school, but my cousin’s husband, a water operator, encouraged me to try a few water courses. I enrolled in Water Math, Water Treatment, and Water Distribution at SCC – and I was hooked! After passing my T2 and D2 certification exams, I decided to complete the full program." Where He Is Now: Today, Jeffrey is a Customer Experience Representative at Western Municipal Water District, specializing in Water Use Efficiency and Education. From managing rebates and leak notifications to hosting educational booths at community events, Jeffrey is making a real impact on water conservation in Southern California. What He Loves: "I love the water-use efficiency community. It’s a collaborative, welcoming space where everyone is willing to help. Plus, it feels incredible to educate the public on how much work goes into supplying water to our region." Jeffrey’s Advice for Future Students: "Network, network, network! Attend industry events, visit agencies, and ask questions. Exposure to the field and building connections can open doors you didn’t know existed." We’re proud of your success, Jeffrey!
