To continue supporting the functions of the 45th Civil Engineer Squadron’s firefighting personnel and mission, Patrick Space Force Base needed a new facility that was more modern, efficient, and appropriately sized. RS&H, as part of a design-build team, was selected as the designer of record for constructing a new fire crash rescue station facility to support both the flight line and fire trucks. The facility is designed to be USGBC LEED Silver certified and includes many features leaning into comfortability and utility of the space. Streamlined permitting kept this project on time and on track. Read about the project: https://lnkd.in/grpw_fiB #federal #firestation #architecture

NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Kennedy Space Center entrusted RS&H to vet the feasibility of and design modifications to the Space Launch System (SLS) Mobile Launcher. The 355-foot-tall mobile launcher is designed to support the assembly, testing, check out, and servicing of NASA’s SLS rockets, as well as transfer the rockets to the pad and provide the platform from which they will launch. The targeted study evaluated the structural feasibility of modifying the existing SLS Mobile Launcher to receive a taller launch vehicle. RS&H partnered with Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN) to design its largest terminal expansion, continuing a decades-long relationship with three major expansions. This latest addition enhances the passenger experience while embracing the region’s natural beauty, with grand, light-filled spaces, inviting fireplaces, and three new bars. The new design provides many vistas of the Bridger Mountains, which serve as the main focal point throughout the terminal. Locally sourced stone, glulam beams, and exposed steel assure a seamless architectural transition with the existing terminal, with some materials even being reused from prior work. To support the expansion, a local quarry will be re-opened to provide additional stone for the project. A highlight of the east terminal expansion is the innovative baggage claim ceiling. What might typically be utilitarian in nature, the baggage claim ceiling shrouds many important airport operations. The custom structural support system integrates lighting, sprinklers, and mechanical elements and accommodates swinging, hinged panels in the wood ceiling. These panels provide full access from below to the entire stretch of baggage belt and catwalk, allowing for easy maintenance and rapid removal of stuck bags from the new mezzanine level baggage drop for outbound passengers. The ceiling’s complexity comes from both its function and form. It supports the baggage system above while also concealing mechanical systems, catwalks, and lighting. Its sloped design guides travelers toward baggage claim, and access panels add another layer of intricacy. Beyond the public-facing spaces, RS&H also designed a new administrative office Suite for airport authority staff, with a new boardroom, two training rooms, and a welcome room, all offering varying degrees of community access. By blending thoughtful design with technical expertise, RS&H has helped create more than just a terminal expansion, it is an experience that leaves a lasting impression on travelers while representing the local community and reinforcing BZN's connection to its natural surroundings and regional character. The construction of the new East Terminal is planned to be completed in 2028.
