Located in Utah's rapidly growing Wasatch Front region, Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) serves over 25 million passengers annually. To accommodate this burgeoning demand and plan for future growth, RS&H developed a comprehensive master plan for SLC and its two general aviation reliever airports, South Valley Regional and Tooele Valley. Our plan meticulously charts a course for future development, striking a delicate balance between the evolving needs of passengers, the aviation industry, and the surrounding community. Given the mountainous terrain surrounding the airport and the resulting airspace constraints, expanding airfield capacity by adding another runway was unlikely. Instead, our master plan centered on optimizing the use of existing infrastructure, examining ways to improve the efficiency of aircraft movements while reducing carbon emissions, minimizing environmental impacts, and investing in technologies that will improve air traffic control and aircraft navigation. These strategies have resulted in a balanced airport that accommodates the expected growth in vehicles, passengers, and aircraft. Our solutions carefully consider the need to respect the surrounding environment and the community SLC serves. In today’s fast-paced world, staying vigilant to protect ourselves and each other is important. Malicious and fraudulent employment campaigns are targeting the AEC industry, including RS&H. People claiming to be RS&H associates are extending false employment offers to job seekers and attempting to steal money and personal information. Located west of Denver, near Vail, Colorado, I-70 crosses Vail Pass at an elevation of 10,662 feet. The West Vail Pass (I-70) corridor is the second-highest interstate in the U.S., presenting unique challenges with its steep grades, severe weather, and complex terrain. RS&H partnered with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) to improve safety and operations on the challenging 10-mile corridor for trucks and passenger vehicles. Some of our innovative solutions involved: -Widening the highway using a unique wall system -Enhancing shoulders to provide snow storage -Installing avalanche mitigation -Constructing complex curved bridges These solutions were a testament to the innovative services we continue to provide CDOT in completing their most important projects. The project also showcases our expertise in delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions. By adhering to the Context Sensitive Solutions (CSS) process, we blended the improvements with the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains while minimizing environmental impacts. The addition of a Sediment Action Control Plan, a plan to collect the tons of traction sand put down during winter months before it reaches the creek supplying drinking water to the town of Vail, further demonstrated our commitment to protecting the surrounding ecosystem, making West Vail Pass safer and more reliable for all travelers.
