The RTS was granted its Royal title in 1966 and HRH The Prince of Wales became Patron of the Society in 1997. The RTS brings together people to exchange ideas, debate and explore key issues. The RTS Awards are an internationally recognised hallmark for quality and originality. For more than 90 years, the RTS has provided the UK’s main platform for debate about the future of television. Its lectures, events and publications make a substantial contribution to raising standards and developing practice. The RTS organises dinners with influential speakers, lectures, monthly sessions on current issues, and the world famous biennial Cambridge Convention sets the agenda for the future. Television, the leading UK monthly on television issues and broadcasting policy, is distributed free to members. Enrolment for the RTS Mini MBA in Television and Streaming Media is fast approaching, and we’re excited to welcome our first cohort to this pioneering course. ? The programme amounts to over 80 hours of interactive learning and insights from 100+ industry leaders, with case studies on everything from Premier League football rights to the development of The Traitors. ?? The RTS Mini MBA boxset ?? The RTS Mini MBA resembles a boxset. There are four seasons – we call them ‘streams’ – and each of these streams has a number of episodes –?or ‘modules’. Each of these modules will build upon the last, ensuring that by the time you complete the Mini MBA you’ll have a comprehensive understanding of the industry. 1. Industry Context We’ll start by looking at the big picture, mapping out the UK television ecosystem and how money flows through the industry. We’ll explain the unique role of the Public Service Broadcasters and the UK’s strong independent production sector, touching on policy, audience analytics and sports, before situating the business in a global context. 2. Programme Making We’ll then zoom into the lifecycle of a programme, defining genres and funding models before spelling out the growth of an idea from development to commissioning to production. We’ll also look at the crucial roles of production management, production accounting and distribution. 3. Business Functions Behind every programme lies the business operations that keep the wheels of the sector turning: financial accounting, intellectual property (IP) and rights, business affairs and legal, marketing and communications, and talent and HR. We’ll explore the work of each of these departments. 4. Future Outlook We finish by looking to the future. As well as business strategy you will examine the drivers behind deals, mergers and acquisitions, and explore the sector’s evolution in response to viewing behaviour, competition and technology. Lastly, our leading contributors reflect on what they are looking for in the next generation. The ’Director’s Cut’ is for the TV buffs who fancy carrying on their learning after graduation with a wide range of additional masterclasses and readings. Find out more: rtsacademy.org.uk Ahead of enrolment on Monday 17 March, here’s a glimpse of what’s to come:
