Tip and Arnie would have a lifelong friendship and won the Open together in back-to-back years in '61 & '62. His statue behind the R&A was unveiled last month and serves as a wonderful tribute to a man responsible for so many things that make golf great even to this day! Want your picture taken with Tom? Yesterday, we stayed at the Turnberry Resort and play the Turnberry Ailsa Course which was the site of the 1977 'Duel in the Sun' when Watson outlasted Nicklaus. Perhaps equally memorable was when unlikely 59-year-old Tom Watson teed off the 72nd hole of the 2009 Open Championship, hit what appeared to be a perfect approach that bounded over the green. He couldn't make par and ended up losing in a playoff to Stewart Cink. A special thanks to Elevate Golf and the wonderful, hospitable people at Turnberry. On Saturday, I played at White Oak GC in Newnan and my next round of golf will be a week from today at Turnberry in Scotland. This is a former, and hopefully future, Open Championship rota course that has hosted the epic 'Duel in the Sun' with Nicklaus vs. Watson and Stewart Cink's win over unlikely contender, Tom Watson. Turnberry has been greatly enhanced over the last 10-years - this is one of my all-time favorites and I cannot wait to witness for myself the updated layout! Here, the greens are encircled by a short electrified fence to keep the grazing cows and sheep off the putting surfaces.
