A heartfelt thank you to our recent guest speaker, Shuan Butcher of Move United, for joining us and sharing such meaningful reflections in his latest article in the Frederick News-Post. In his article, "Service Clubs Are Unsung Heroes in Our Community," they offered a beautiful reminder of the critical role service organizations play in bringing people together, creating lasting change, and building community. His words were an excellent reminder that we all have the opportunity, and responsibility, to help and support one another. Whether through local projects, scholarships, or global initiatives like the fight to end polio, service clubs leave a lasting impact. Thank you to the Rotary Club of Carroll Creek and Eric Fairbanks for inviting me to speak at the breakfast meeting earlier this week! Making connections is my favorite part of Rotary International and I was honored to share my story with this awesome club in our neighboring Rotary District 7620! Everyone I chatted with was very welcoming and I found them all to be genuine servant leaders. They appreciated the candor of my presentation, and were grateful that I shared such personal experiences with them, and I appreciated their reception of me and my message!! Together we can ALL help to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. I built up the courage to tell my story using the mental bricks that used to imprison my thoughts and prevented me from exploring anything beyond my doubts and fears. Led by Prof Sylvia Antonia Nakimera Nannyonga-Tamusuza, the Cohort 9 fellows delved into Music and theater as powerful tools for peacebuilding and conflict resolution in Africa, offering unique methodological spaces for negotiating peace and addressing societal divisions. Music has long played a vital role in African societies, serving as a means of cultural expression and social commentary. Many successful initiatives combine music and theater, along with other art forms, to create holistic peacebuilding programs like the Amani Festival in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo.?By offering accessible, participatory platforms for dialogue, healing, and reconciliation, these artistic mediums complement formal peacebuilding processes. As Africa continues to grapple with complex conflicts, integrating music and theater into broader peacebuilding strategies can help foster sustainable peace and social cohesion across the continent.

As winter winds grow harsher on Jeju Island, the Rotary Club of Jeju Hana is stepping up to help the island’s stray dogs stay safe and warm ?? Since October, volunteers have spent their weekends at the Hanlim Animal Shelter—cleaning kennels, providing meals, and installing winterproofing to protect these dogs from the freezing temperatures. Jeju has the highest stray animal population in Korea, making these efforts even more critical. Every small act of kindness adds up, and together, we can make a big difference. We hope these efforts will inspire others to join in and create lasting change for our furry friends ??

The Rotary District 7620 Red Line Happy Hour held at Puro Gusto in downtown DC was a big success. Our Rotary Club of Washington Global organized this one and we had a lot of fun seeing Rotarians from around District 7620 - from Rockville and Bethesda to all the different clubs in the District.
