关于我们
The Rotary Clubs of District 6990 have served the diverse regions of Southeast Florida, the Florida Keys and the Grand Bahama Island community since the chartering of the Rotary Club of Key West in 1916. In 1970, Grand Bahama Island became part of the district by a Rotary International Presidential decision. As part of the largest international service organization in the world, Rotarians specialize in providing humanitarian services to our neighborhoods, our youth, our members’ vocations and to the world we live in. District 6990 is a tropical paradise, home to approximately 2,000 Rotarians and over 50 clubs. It is one of the most unique Districts in the Rotary world! What makes District 6990 so unique is that it is nestled in the only subtropical climate zone in the US and it is one of the few international districts based in the continental United States that draws its membership from three Florida counties and Grand Bahama Island in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. Monroe County, Florida, is a 120-mile long string of 822 little islands known as The Florida Keys. It boasts of Key West – the southernmost city in the US – and Key Largo, made famous by the movie of the same name that starred Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. Moving north from The Keys brings you into the 926 square miles of Miami-Dade County, known worldwide as a vacation paradise and home of the Everglades National Park with its renowned nature trails. Continuing northward brings you into the 423 square miles of Broward County and its 23 miles of coastal shoreline and white sandy beaches. Moving east, over the water, brings you to Grand Bahama Island, westernmost and one of the largest of the 700 islands that make up the British Commonwealth of the Bahamas. District 6990 invites you to be a part of its uniqueness. Come share the sun, the sand, the sea and Rotary’s warm hospitality. If you wish to visit, please Contact Us. We’d be happy to introduce you!

As dangerous Hurricane Milton approaches our state, now is the time to prepare, and time is of the essence. District 6990 is a part of a collaboration with all 8 districts in the state of Florida to provide tools, resources, and support to one another in times of disaster. Fellow Rotarians on the West Coast shared their best tips based on lessons they learned, and the following is a checklist of things to consider before and after the storm. Before The Storm 1. Take care of your personal life, your family, your club, your community, in that order. The well-being of you and your family should be paramount. 2. Get supplies for your family, but don’t take more than what you need. 3. Take pictures and videos of your home and belongings, before and after the storm, and also those of your preparations. 4. Heed evacuation orders. If you are in a flood or coastal zone and ordered to evacuate, please do so. 5. Call 311 or 211 (check your local listings) for free transportation to a shelter. 6. Pack an essentials go bag. One bag per family. 7. Get a supply of cash in the event ATMs are not working. 8. Activate a call tree now for your Rotary club and find out what people need in preparation. Take care of your own prep first. 9. Take gas cans off the ground to avoid water from getting into the gas. 10. If you're going to sleep, turn the volume up on your phone in case of emergency alerts. 11. Turn off your breakers after your power goes out, especially if there’s water in the house. 12. For your Rotary club, download a current roster from DACDB so that you can initiate a call tree after the storm in the event there is no power and you cannot access their contact information. 13. If you don't already have one, create a What's App chat for your club. This will be helpful if there is internet service but not cell service. Stay safe!

Despite the rain, Rotarians made it out to Phil's Berry Farm to enjoy our District Family Picnic! A huge thank you to Rotarian Phil and his wife Patty, along with their visiting son, for extending every hospitality possible and graciously hosting us on their beautiful property. Attendees were treated to delicious food, fun lawn games, and a mini concert inside the barn by a professional entertainer! Proceeds from the event will go directly to the Rotary 6990 Foundation for disaster relief. Special thanks to Publix for their generous donation of hamburgers. All in all, a successful and memorable day for all! #RotaryDistrict6990 #RotaryFoundation #RotaryPicnic #CommunitySupport #DisasterRelief
