Interviewing is easy, right? Anyone can do it… but few do it well enough to unlock the benefits and insights that interviewing users and customers can yield. In this new and updated edition of the acclaimed classic Interviewing Users, Steve Portigal quickly and effectively dispels the myth that interviewing is trivial. He shows how research studies and logistics can be used to determine concrete goals for a business and takes the reader on a detailed journey into the specifics of interviewing techniques, best practices, fieldwork, documentation, and how to make sense of uncovered data. This edition features... - 2 new chapters: one about analysis and synthesis and sharing research results, and another about ensuring that your user research efforts will have an impact on your organization - 7 new short essays (we call them sidebars) from guest contributors - updated examples, stories, and tips for leading interviews - new sections about bias, remote research, ResearchOps, planning research, and research logistics Refresh your interviewing practices and get your copy today! https://lnkd.in/eMCPFVJc

DesignOps Leader | Co-Author of "The Design Conductors" | Designing Human-Centered Design Organizations
Wow wow wow! It's been a whirlwind of a month with lots of exciting things that I have yet to post about, but the highlight of them all was #TheDesignConductors book launch party. ???? They say that your wedding is the last time you'll have all your favorite people in one room, but this night proved that's not true. This party wasn’t just a celebration of the book, it was a celebration of our amazing community and the practice of DesignOps. I'm grateful to everyone that showed up to raise a glass with us, and to DesignMap for hosting us! ?? ?? And my favorite moment? Seeing the awe in my kiddos eyes and hearing "mommy did that!" ?? #DesignOps #Community #MomPower

Did you know that while systems thinking is all hype, a superficial application may jeopardize the value of service design practice? Josina Vink, Associate Professor at The Oslo School of Architecture and Design, will discuss the hidden dangers of applying systems thinking, with examples of struggles from over a decade of practice experience during their closing talk at Advancing Service Design 2024, a new Rosenfeld conference taking place December 3-4. Josina will share strategies for adopting a systemic approach that amplifies, rather than erodes, the transformative potential of the practice. Trust us; this is a can't-miss event! It was so nice to see Rachel Posman at the DesignOps Assembly event in New York where she discussed her book "The Design Conductors - Your Essential Guide to Design Operations" published by Rosenfeld Media. When I got my copy, I could not put it down until I read it cover to cover. It is an essential guide for anyone working on scaling and operationalizing Design in their organizations. Rachel and John take the symphony orchestra metaphor to the next level by walking through all the stages of DesignOps, from the fundamentals, the roles, and the collaboration with other disciplines to the strategy and impact. This book is a great contribution to our industry. Special thanks to Perpetual for hosting this event and Natalie Lang for leading the fireside chat. #DesignOps #Design #Leadership #Impact #Scale Get a copy of the book - https://lnkd.in/eZZa3hsx

CEO, Service Designer, & Co-Founder @ Harmonic Design | Co-author – Orchestrating Experiences | Designer, teacher, and speaker.
It was my pleasure co-moderating the latest Service Design Network Touchpoint Journal roundtable today. I was one of the guest editors for the issue's theme, "Achieving Interdisciplinarity." This topic is very important for everyone trying to create change in complex systems. And... this theme will be very strong in the upcoming Rosenfeld Media Advancing Service Design Conference that I helped curate with Ben Reason and Sylvie A.. We have some amazing talks and panels planned. There is still time to get a ticket. Hope to see you there!

Hope to see you there! ??
I help service design professionals win the ? & ?? of people and business so they can create more impact.
Remember what I shared recently... An exciting new conference is just around the corner, #AdvancingServiceDesign 2024. We had a chat with Louis Rosenfeld, the conference organizer, about key ideas behind the conference. Today, we're doing a deep dive into the two-day conference program with Sylvie Abookire, who's part of the curation team. In this episode, you'll hear about the main themes, the inspiring (and somewhat surprising) speakers, and of course how it all ties together to advance our field. Sure, you can also get some of this info on the conference website, but I promise this conversation is much more fun ?? ?? YouTube ~ https://lnkd.in/e2wYAnBc ?? Spotify ~ https://lnkd.in/e2wYAnBc ?? Apple ~ https://lnkd.in/e2wYAnBc ??? Other ~ https://lnkd.in/e2wYAnBc ~~~ P.S. Also, if you want to attend Advancing Service Design, check out the show notes for a sweet discount on your ticket. But that's not all... When you sign up using our special code, you'll automatically enter a contest where you can win sweet prizes. Here's what we're giving away: * 1x ASD24 Conference ticket * 2x Rosenverse Gold memberships * 3x Rosenfeld Media books The winners will be announced at the conference (or sooner if you win the ticket). Good luck!???
