We put an exciting spin on our Q4 board meeting with a hands-on demonstration of XALTER’s XR technology, hosted at the Williams Tower in Tulsa! Kevin Anderson and Jeremy Kenisky, founders of XALTER—a Rose Rock Bridge 2024 startup—showed how their cutting-edge XR technology is transforming the energy workforce. The Williams operations team shared their experience with our partner coalition: ONEOK, Devon Energy, Helmerich & Payne, Microsoft, Tulsa Innovation Labs, PartnerTulsa, and Hess Corporation. This collaboration and insight sharing among our partners is where real value is created for our startups. A huge thank you to Greg Douglas for making this demonstration possible and hosting us. More than ever, we need to get promising technologies out of the lab and into society where they can make an impact—and facilitate this process as swiftly as possible. Given the challenges of bringing any new technology to market, breaking through in a brand new industry is even harder. But it’s not impossible. At New York Climate Week, we hosted a workshop in partnership with ARPA-E and supported by Brown Rudnick LLP and Rose Rock Bridge to convene talent, knowledge, and community in the emerging space of geologic hydrogen. We brought together promising geologic hydrogen researchers and gave them entrepreneurial training, distilling some of the signature aspects of Activate’s two-year fellowship into a two-day workshop. Powerhouse leaders including Evelyn Wang, Justina Gallegos, and Richard H, and an additional panel of experts, shared deep insights into commercialization, and the room full of experts interacted with the researchers, including providing feedback on their pitches. What did we learn? That a two-day workshop can be transformative. (One participant even called the experience “life-changing.”) Thank you to everyone who made this workshop possible. We look forward to using this model in the future to bridge the gap between research and commercial impact and to build community and momentum in emerging industries.
