The speed at which the Trump Administration is vilifying the Social Security Administration and it's benefit recipients is astonishing. Elon Musk called it a "Ponzi Scheme" earlier this month, and then President Trump used misleading numbers to claim rampant fraud in his address to Congress. Billionaire U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Howard W. Lutnick now says anyone who complains about missing their monthly payments is clearly "a fraudster." Thanks to Rolling Stone and journalist Ryan Bort for making us all aware of how disconnected Lutnick is from the lives of poor seniors living month to month. Lutnick's comments are below: "Let's say Social Security didn't send out their checks this month," Lutnick said on the All-In podcast. "My mother-in-law is 94. She wouldn't call and complain. She just wouldn't. She would think something got messed up and she'll get it next month. A fraudster always makes the loudest noise screaming, yelling, and complaining." "The easiest way to find a fraudster is to stop payments and listen," he continued. "Whoever screamed is the one stealing."

It was wonderful to hear Dawn Simonson, CEO of Trellis, on MPR News with Angela Davis this morning discussing how to age in place, or "age in community," as fellow guest Archelle Georgiou, MD put it. One takeaway that resonated was the idea that getting help for some of the smaller tasks around the house can really help extend your time at home. It also reduces the stress of having to do it all yourself as your capabilities diminish. These are exactly the type of services Rose Hill Stay-at-Home Services offers - helping keep up the house, helping with technology, accompanying to doctors appointments, etc. Learn more at www.rosehillathome.com about how we can you or a loved one stay at home.

I had a great time at the Minnesota Wild game at the Xcel Energy Center last night with my youngest client, Scott. The Wild pulled off a thrilling overtime win with just 23 seconds remaining! A big shout out and thank you to Amy Reuvers, a care manager at First Fiduciary Corporation, who arranges the details of my adventures with Scott. We couldn't have this kind of fun without you, Amy!

Here's a fun article from the The New York Times by Sara Ruberg with short vignettes of people who have lived past 110 and are referred to as "Super Centenarians." These are the oldest of the old (or maybe the wisest of the wise?) and it's fascinating to learn about their life stories.

This heartbreaking story in the The New York Times about an elderly man who lost his life savings to a scammer is all too common. Shame and embarassment are common among fraud victims of any age. It's not all your fault: scammers use a variety of psychological tactics and tricks that increase the odds of getting their hands on your money. The best defense is to educate yourself about what the frauds often look like so you are prepared when they come fro you. Rose Hill Stay-at-Home Services offers free presentations on how to avoid common scams and frauds. Learn more at www.rosehillathome.com

Special shout outs to Radiation Therapists Jasmine Stala and Leah Erson. They were so patient with Valora and so much fun to talk with during the treatments - Tareen is lucky to have them on board! From the Stop-and-be-Grateful-for-the-Roses Department, here's an article from Axios showing the correlation between longevity and gratitude. The idea that mental health and physical wellbeing are intertwined goes back to at least Ancient Greece, but this puts some modern science behind it: Those reporting the highest levels of gratefulness also have a 30% lower chance of dying early.

This excellent article from The Atlantic puts some hard numbers to a phenomenon nearly all of us have seen: Americans are interacting less and less in person. One reason is the rise of smartphones and social media. It's not the only reason, but it's a big one. And it's not just affecting the elderly, but every age, racial, and economic group. Because all of our work is done in person, Rose Hill Stay-at-Home Services not only helps around the house, but also provides face-to-face conversations and interactions with people who care. As the article demonstrates, isolation and loneliness don't have good outcomes for anyone. Visit Rose Hill Stay-at-Home Services to learn how we can help keep you or a loved one connected and thriving while staying independent and in their own home.

They include healthy eating, keeping your body active, strong social connections, and maintaining a sense of purpose. These are things most of us already know, but if you're like me, you can definitely benefit from frequent reminders to build muscle and eat healthier! If you or someone you know needs a boost - say a walking partner or someone to help you make a homecooked meal - Rose Hill Stay-at-Home Services is available to help you stay active and engaged.
