We're back! We can't wait to see you again starting THIS Thursday at Afternoon Explorations. Join us Thursdays and Fridays anytime between 1:30 and 5 p.m. to explore the lower part of the mountain. And we'd love to show you the stars (and more!) in the sky at Friday Starry Nights. Thank you again for your patience and understanding as we cleaned up after Hurricane Helene.

ScanSource has supported us for many years, providing funding for a number of projects around our campus, including one of our new 4th grade labs, Light Heist. In this lab, students use properties of light to discover which suspect stole a precious sculpture. The evidence shines light on the guilty party! Thank you for helping us fulfill our mission to ignite the natural curiosity of all learners to explore and shape their world.

It's the most wonderful time of year -- monarch butterfly tagging and releasing! Check out our resident butterfly expert, Ms. Anne, as she explains how we tag our monarchs and releases them on their journey for Mexico! We hope to see you again soon - take care!

We're thankful for everyone’s thoughts and offers to help remediate the mountain after Hurricane Helene's arrival. We're fortunate that no major damage was done to Roper Mountain. However, there are a lot of downed trees, which will take a while to clean up. We will be closed today, Thursday, and Friday, Oct. 4, for Afternoon Explorations and Friday Starry Nights. There has been no decision made for next week as of yet, but we will keep you posted on social media with updates as they become available. Thank you!

Special thanks to the Bosch USA Community Fund for their support in providing an awesome new home for our Axolotls, Luigi and Peach! The new habitat in the Rainforest Classroom makes it so much easier for our students to gather round and see them up close! Thank you for helping us fulfill our mission to ignite the natural curiosity of all learners to explore and shape their world.

We're excited to share that we were recently awarded the prestigious 2024 South Carolina Project Learning Tree Jerry L. Shrum Leadership in Education Award! Under the incredible leadership of our Environmental Science Chair Tim Taylor and Adjunct Instructor Carrie Whitlock, we're the first organization to receive this honor since the award's inception in 1997!

Due to the impending storm and as a facility of Greenville County Schools, we will be closed today and tomorrow for all public programming. This includes Afternoon Adventure and Friday Starry Nights. We apologize for any inconvenience and look forward to welcoming you back soon. Stay safe!

Do you know the tree in our Butterfly Garden that has one of the largest native edible tree fruits in North America? Our Pawpaw tree or shrub now has very large, green-yellowish mature fruits hanging from its branches and some so heavy they have fallen from the tree.
