I worry for our nation and the movement to fix the food system. What will an administration that favors big corporations, ignores the separation of powers and shows no empathy for the multitude of lives it’s impacting cost us? Undocumented workers have been deported and hundreds of thousands more fear the same. What will this do to farms, processing plants and restaurants? The DOGE wrecking ball is already damaging communities and people working on the food system’s frontlines. Roots of Change is working with three USDA grants aiding ranchers and small farmers that may end; it would mean a 30% reduction in our budget and force hard decisions. Over?100 thousand nonprofits?in the U.S. face similar peril and some have already folded. This is an unprecedented threat to the good food movement and especially to rural and low income families. It demands a bold response... Read our Executive Director Michael R. Dimock's full blog post here: https://bit.ly/3QBYVyi

The latest Flipping the Table episode is available now: Helena Bottemiller Evich from?Food Fix?shares her views on Trump nominees RFK Jr. & Brooke Rollins and the striking possibility of realignment around food policy in Washington DC. After 15 years on the federal food and agriculture policy beat, perhaps no other American of her generation has a better perspective on what might or might not happen under the new Administration. RFK Jr. and the MAHA movement are having an impact. What could it all mean? APPLICATIONS OPEN! - This spring, I’ll be leading a UC Berkeley Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program (URAP) focused on?regenerative agriculture policy. We are looking for enthusiastic undergraduate researchers to join two exciting projects: Project 1: Landscape Analysis of California's Agricultural Policy This project aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis of California's current agricultural policy ecosystem. Students will engage in in-depth research to identify and analyze key players, ongoing legislative efforts, and innovative policy approaches in regenerative agriculture. Project 2: Enhancing Food Supply Chain Resilience Led by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA), this project focuses on enhancing the resilience of California's food supply chain by supporting small and mid-sized farms and food businesses. By prioritizing sustainability and climate-smart practices, the initiative seeks to create thriving local communities, strengthen food security, and promote fair economic opportunities. Together with Roots of Change (ROC), UC Davis, Institute of the Environment, and the Council of Development Financing Agencies, this project will serve to improve supply chain resilience for small and mid-sized regional producers and inform strategic infrastructure investments and future policy directions. Richards Regenerative: Thanks for the shoutout and for your continued support of our regenerative meat related projects!
Richards Regenerative recently attended the 3rd annual Regional Regenerative Meat Event At Mulvaney's Restaurant in Sacramento this past November. The event was put on by??ROOTS OF CHANGE,?a food system policy and advocacy group. ?? This is the second Roots of Change event we have attended this year where we had panel discussions on several topics,?with one of the most glaring topics being the "Product of the USA" labeling laws. It's so important to know where your food comes from, and unfortunately "Product of the USA" doesn't mean it was raised here, or even processed here. Pay attention to labeling and know that Richards Regenerative is 100% raised and processed here in the USA! ? We enjoy connecting with all our peers in the regenerative space and cannot wait to do it again in the coming year.?
