The third edition of Rooted Magazine, to be published in September 2025 will focus on providing grounded examples and perspectives on the role of food sovereignty and agroecology along with solidarity economies, and indigenous knowledge in creating paths for systemic transformation towards justice and dignity. We are looking for grounded stories and perspectives on how grassroots organizations and social movements are building resilience in the face of today's global challenges. From climate crises to inequality, we believe in the power of communities to transform systems and create lasting change. European agriculture, societies and economies could be transformed if only a fraction of the continent’s municipal procurement contracts were awarded to small-scale organic and agroecological farmers. European farmers, researchers, local policymakers and public procurers are coming together with this ambition in big cities like Copenhagen as well as in smaller towns like Torres Vedras in Portugal. Together, they are breaking down barriers and creating tools for systemic change. Csilla Kiss and Lindy Binder from the Centre for Agroecology, Water & Resilience co-authored an article about these experiences, as Csilla shares in the video below. Over the past three decades, the Cuban people have made great strides in scaling out and up the practice, science and movement of agroecology. This is often celebrated as an example. However, the adoption and durability of agroecology have been uneven across space and time. Recent policy reforms are laying the groundwork for the greater spread of agroecology across the entire food system on the path to food sovereignty. In this article, the authors Leidy Casimiro, Margarita F. and Giraldo Martin highlight the key programmes and policies that have enabled agroecology in the early years of the transition, and describe the most recent reforms the Cuban government has undergone towards a national public policy for agroecology.
