As published in the #preprint journal bioRxiv, researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison developed a method to screen cancer-targeted theranostics using a library of phage VNAR shark antibodies directed at #fibroblast activation protein (FAP), which helps tumors grow. VNAR-Fc fusion constructs selectively bound to FAP+ xenografts with high affinity, enabling a new discovery platform for targeting prostate tumor microenvironments. This new approach could lead to better cancer treatments by improving how tumors are diagnosed and targeted. ?? A study published in Science Advances from Oregon Health & Science University, Wyss Institute at Harvard University, and State University of Campinas shows that perivascular cells (PCs) play a crucial role in how tiny blood vessels respond to changes in their surroundings. Using lab-engineered capillaries, the group led by Professor Luiz Bertassoni found that PCs influence vessel leakage and inflammation, especially in stiffened, diseased tissues. The findings highlight a new, possibly targetable mechanism via NOTCH3 to modulate vascular health in diseases like atherosclerosis, neurodegeneration or liver fibrosis.
