Is it menopause affecting your memory, or is it something else? For many in menopause, forgetfulness and brain fog can feel like a normal part of life—but how do you know when it's something more sinister, like dementia? Dr. Lisa Genova, a Harvard-trained neuroscientist and one of our leading experts at Roon, was recently featured in "Memory Slips: Menopause or Something Else?"— a Hone Health article by Stephanie Anderson Witmer that dives into how hormonal changes during menopause can impact memory and cognition. Some key insights: ?? Memory Loss in Midlife is Not Always from Menopause: Dr. Genova explains how oftentimes “it’s not that you’re forgetting, it’s that you never formed the memory in the first place.” She highlights how multitasking and mental overload—common during menopause—can lead to simple forgetfulness, like misplacing your keys or losing track of conversations. ?? Dementia vs. Menopause Brain Fog: “Dementia is progressive, whereas menopause-related brain fog tends to be short-lived,” Dr. Genova notes. She uses the example of forgetting where you put your keys—only to find them in a familiar spot—compared to dementia, where you might place them somewhere unusual—like wrapped in a scarf in your sock drawer—and have no memory of doing so. ?? Strategies for Brain Health: Dr. Genova shares simple, effective tips: “Managing stress and improving sleep are essential. If you’re not getting restful sleep, you can’t properly form memories.” She also emphasizes the importance of a brain-healthy diet: “Foods rich in omega-3s and vitamin D can significantly help with cognitive health,” adding that exercise, like regular walks, boosts both brain function and overall well-being. ?? Today, we’re thrilled to announce our $15M Series A to provide a compassionate, reliable health guide for everyone. This round is co-led by Rick Heitzmann from FirstMark and Eurie Kim from Forerunner, with continued support from early investors, including Soraya Darabi from TMV and Jess Lee from Sequoia Capital More than any name or number, I’m so proud of this milestone because we’re building with a team of truly mission-driven people My personal experience as a caregiver to my father during his battle with ALS inspired me to build Roon. Navigating the complexities of the healthcare system opened my eyes: At some point, we’ll all face the challenge of caring for ourselves or a loved one through difficult health issues. And I knew there had to be a better way than turning to "Doctor Google."My co-founders Rohan Ramakrishna, MD, and Arun Ranganathan shared this vision as doctors and caregivers. Many of our investors have a meaningful personal connection to our mission. And most inspiringly, thousands of leading physicians in the country have joined us, eager to make their expertise more accessible and fix how the Internet often falls short for health information. Their enthusiasm to scale their impact beyond their clinics at places like Weill Cornell, UCSF, Harvard, Stanford or Columbia has been deeply encouraging. Finally, thank you to our incredible team Joshua Lang, Fatima Alvi, Alice Chen, Naintara (Tara) Rajan, Mackenzie C., Chelsey Larson, RN, BSN, Patrick E Porché Jr, Kelvin De Los Angeles, Koonal Bharadwaj, Ben Powell, Enid Hwang This funding marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. With it, we’ll expand our platform to cover hundreds of conditions, including critical areas like women’s health, cancer, neurology, metabolic health, and pediatrics. Roon is more than just a company – it’s a movement to reimagine how we care for ourselves and one another. If you’re passionate about creating a better future for health, we invite you to join us. We are actively hiring! We’re back with our latest edition of The Care Guild (https://lnkd.in/ez-Wd3np)! This time, we’re honoring innovators and intellectuals who are shaping how artificial intelligence and care come together in the coming months and years. At The Holding Co. we’re both excited about the myriad ways that AI can and is being leveraged to make caregivers' lives easier and also very aware of the potential pitfalls of technological advancement when it comes to this most sacred and universal of human experiences. The way we see it, this doesn’t have to be an either/or situation, but an and/both. We deserve the best that AI has to offer for our families’ thriving and we deserve human connection and touch, the dignity that comes from privacy, and a wise, deliberate approach to AI’s integration into our intimate, daily lives. These dynamics aren’t just theory to us; we’ve been testing the waters with our own project recently: The Sandwich Club (https://lnkd.in/eq7NKXnB), a membership club to answer caregivers' questions with both generative #AI and guidance from people with real, messy, beautiful caregiving experience. With this class of the #CareGuild, we wanted to highlight leaders who are exploring AI’s capacity for lightening the cognitive load, navigating care crises, and connecting otherwise isolated and vulnerable people to the support they need to stay safe and inspired to new levels. They are also leaders with an eye towards what could go wrong–academics and artists and professional caregivers who are committed to being part of collectives with our long-term human dignity as the northstar, no matter what technology brings (or promises to). Meet the Care Guild class of 2024. They are sure to inspire at a time when we so need it. Our mission at Roon is to ensure everyone has a trusted guide for health. It should be no surprise, then, that our latest launch is focused on helping the 10% of women and girls suffering from endometriosis. Globally, 190 million individuals are impacted by endometriosis. Patients have told us that they often live with endometriosis for years – with debilitating symptoms that include severe pain, heavy menstrual bleeding, and infertility – before they’re able to find the right medical professional to diagnose them and begin to help them navigate the disease. As one Patient Advocate told us, "I first had symptoms of endometriosis when I was 16, yet I didn't hear the word until 13 years later when I was 29 years old…I would communicate my symptoms to my pediatrician, who told me things like that I was exaggerating or it was part of being a woman or I was just trying to get attention." Her story is all too familiar for millions of people. At Roon, we want to make navigating endometriosis less hard. Starting today, you can go to roon.com and check out our guide to Endometriosis. Roon Endometriosis is a completely free, comprehensive resource featuring: ?? Over 1000 answers to top endometriosis questions covering topics ranging from the basics of endo and getting diagnosed to understanding your symptoms and treatment ?? 40+ experts from fields representing the full gamut of Endo care: Gynecologic Surgery, Pelvic Floor PT, Reproductive Endocrinology, Psychology and more And, our Instant Answer feature allows you to get an immediate answer to any question you have about endometriosis, powered exclusively by Roon experts. Infertility affects one in six adults worldwide and the fear of infertility far more. We understand how confusing and sometimes devastating this journey can be. The internet is often filled with misinformation, leaving many without a safe place to find reliable answers. Additionally, access to fertility doctors is limited, with only around 1,000 specialists available in the United States, and even when available often prohibitively expensive. That's why we're proud to introduce Roon Fertility & Family Building. This is a comprehensive and free platform offering expert answers to nearly 4,000 questions to support anyone navigating their fertility journey. Built by over 100 experts, including top Reproductive Endocrinologists, OBGYNs, Mental Health Experts, and Embryologists from esteemed institutions like Johns Hopkins, Harvard, Northwestern, Weill Cornell, Yale, UCSF and Columbia, and leading fertility clinics. We also include voices with lived experiences, such as Olympic Gold Medalist Tara Lipinski. Our platform covers a wide range of topics, from medical procedures like Egg Freezing, IUI, and IVF, to mental health, financial & insurance considerations, and holistic medicine. All information is presented in short-form video for easy consumption. If you're on your fertility journey, visit us at roon.com or find us on the iOS App Store. We've been there, and we're excited to make navigating fertility easier for you.
