As we head toward the end of the year, we can’t help but look back at the impact our Room to Grow team and community has had. So far in 2024, we’ve partnered with nearly 1,000 families across New York City and Boston and provided over 2,600 hours of coaching and personalized support! Of the parents and caregivers in our program, 99% reported satisfaction with the support they received, and 9 out of 10 children are meeting their developmental milestones on time. We believe that strong starts in childhood can lead to strong outcomes in life, and these outcomes show, with the guidance and resources provided to our families, that foundation is being built. Still living in the dream of my first gala with Room to Grow ???? Coming from a fully remote job, just moving cross-country to NYC, and having my first big in-person event be a gala was… many things — beautiful, re-energizing, overwhelming, powerful, validating. Nearly 500 supporters of Room to Grow gathered in NYC to celebrate over 25 years of promoting equity and opportunity by helping children thrive from the start. Together, we raised over $980,000 ?? all for families and kiddos!! I was honored to be part of this event as the Communications Manager — writing emails, creating social media, drafting remarks, coordinating influencers, collaborating with production, assisting with graphic design, directing photographers (and maybe sneaking on the blue carpet myself). This is the work that ignites my passion for social change communication! I am so proud to be part of this team and the impact we have on providing children across the country with the strong start they deserve. Now, let the planning begin for our Spring 2025 Benefit ??

On October 1, we gathered at the Astor House for an impactful evening discussing mental health equity and the important implications of The Michelle Alyssa Go Act. This panel featured esteemed representatives from NAMI-NYC, NYJL community partner Room to Grow, and the Treatment Advocacy Center (TAC). Together, we explored the urgent need for expanded Medicaid coverage for inpatient mental health care—a critical step to prevent tragedies like the loss of Michelle Go, a beloved NYJL member. A heartfelt thank you to our incredible panelists, Jonathan Chung, MPA (NAMI-NYC), Ce'Neda Warney (Room to Grow), and Nina Richtman (TAC), for sharing their invaluable insights on the challenges and opportunities in advocating for mental health. I had an incredible time at the Room to Grow gala last week in NYC. The event successfully raised $980,000 (!!!!) to give children the strong start they deserve. For over 20 years, Room to Grow’s three-year program has been a lifeline for families raising babies in low-income situations. They offer parents and caregivers not just essential baby and toddler supplies but also guidance, support strategies, and connections to vital community resources. Their holistic approach tackles the complex challenges faced by parents during these crucial early years, laying a solid foundation for the future.
