?? Rondo is proud to be named the Energy Storage Awards winner for Breakthrough R&D / Innovation of the Year! ?? The Rondo Heat Battery (RHB) replaces fossil-fired boilers with heat derived from intermittent renewables; at the same time, RHBs stimulate the production of more renewable electricity through their ability to absorb low-cost (or excess) electricity, and turn it into low-cost heat. The end result? A cleaner and more reliable electric grid, and low-cost, zero-carbon heat for industrial facilities. Congratulations to all of the winners and runners up across all categories for the great work you're doing to accelerate the deployment of energy storage technologies. ?? A special shoutout the the runners up in our category: EVE Energy Co.,Ltd., Gresham House Energy Storage Fund, Zenobē, Sungrow Power Supply Co., Ltd., and Rimac Energy. #StorageAwards

We’re?very happy?to see GreenLab and our partner Rondo Energy featured in a? Newsweek article this week??? ? With a 100 MWh Rondo Energy heat battery soon to be installed at GreenLab, we’re doing our part to mitigate one of the biggest sinners when it comes to industrial CO2 emissions – the energy burned to produce industrial heat. It accounts for as much as a fifth of global CO2 emissions – a staggering number. The initial heat battery installation will support local biogas production, cutting its CO2 emissions significantly at a favourable price. ? As GreenLab CEO, Thomas Helsgaun, notes: “Accelerating the green transition must go hand in hand with economically viable models—otherwise, it won’t be sustainable in the future.”????? ? Read the full article????and??learn more about how our partnership with Rondo Energy is helping the green transition of industry.?Thank you for a great article, Jeff Young!?

"Instead of towering smokestacks, the GreenLab industrial park in Skive,?Denmark, is surrounded by wind turbines and a solar array that power its resident companies with renewable energy. 'Everything that we are doing is about electrifying,' GreenLab CEO Thomas Helsgaun told?Newsweek. However, there are some obstacles GreenLab must overcome to power businesses without pulling electricity from the grid. Renewable energy is only available when the wind blows or the sun shines, so some form of?energy storage is required?to provide power around the clock. Also, much of the energy the park's tenants need is not electricity but heat to drive their industrial processes. GreenLab has turned to a California-based company called Rondo Energy for a remarkably simple solution: heat batteries. Rondo builds large brick modules lined with electrical heating elements that can convert the clean electrons from wind turbines and solar panels into heat that is stored in the bricks for later use." Rondo CEO Eric Trusiewicz sat down with Boston Consulting Group (BCG)'s Cornelius Pieper to discuss how heat batteries are unlocking a $3.5 trillion dollar infrastructure opportunity to rapidly decarbonize some of the world's most difficult-to-abate sectors. Rondo recently announced $75M project financing for 3 heat battery deployments for industrial leaders across 3 European countries, with the support of European Investment Bank (EIB) and Breakthrough Energy Catalyst. Watch the interview here:
Managing Director and Senior Partner at Boston Consulting Group, Global Leader Climate & Sustainability in Industrials
For industrial processes with high heat requirements – ranging from fuel production to food processing, cement production and chemical refining – making a switch to sustainable fuels or high-load electrification is essential to decarbonization, and technologies for optimizing heat and power will be needed to manage costs and emissions. Until recently, intermittent renewable power has struggled to provide reliable 24/7 medium/high-temperature power needed by industry. Rondo Energy is tackling that problem with modular, scalable heat batteries. Rondo will be building full scale?infrastructure for industrial decarbonization in 2025 in 3 European countries with the support of EIB and Breakthrough Energy Catalyst, taking a big step forward in scaling this technology. Accelerating the development and deployment of key low emission technologies is critical to put the industrial sector on a net-zero emissions scenario trajectory. Recently I caught up with Eric Trusiewicz to share some of the critical factors for green tech start-ups to effectively move forward on the scale curve. And it was yet another reminder that low-carbon technologies are advancing non-linearly. It takes a while to reach commercial readiness, and then adoption accelerates. It's new, until it isn't.

Rondo has been on a rapid rise over the past couple of years, and the heat battery sector as a whole is "heating" up. The Rondo Heat Battery is delivering both cost savings and deep decarbonization to industries that have traditionally relied on fossil fuels for high-temperature heat. Some recent milestones include.... Rondo secured €75M in project funding from Breakthrough Energy Catalyst and the European Investment Bank (EIB) for three key European projects, including one with Covestro to supply steam for chemical production, and another with GreenLab to provide heat and power for their innovative industrial park in Denmark. Heavy industry is responsible for about 25% of global carbon emissions, with a staggering 74% of industrial energy use tied to heat production. Until now, decarbonizing this sector has been a major challenge. By converting renewable electricity from solar and wind into continuous, high-temperature heat, Rondo enables facilities to replace fossil-fueled boilers without expensive overhauls. Heat batteries aren’t just transforming industrial heat—they’re supercharging the renewables sector. Rondo’s batteries absorb excess renewable energy during periods of high production and store it for later use, which means industries can rely on clean energy 24/7. This also helps drive demand for more renewable projects, both on- and off-grid, accelerating the deployment of large-scale solar and wind resources. By solving the challenge of industrial heat, Rondo is unlocking opportunities for industries to decarbonize faster and more affordably, while helping to build a more resilient, renewable-powered grid. With a growing list of partnerships and projects, Rondo Heat Batteries are positioned to play a central role in the future of clean energy. Get in touch with us today: https://lnkd.in/gvNntbHt
