#Spiralnotebook... yes, it's true, a spiral notebook can be a system, but when we met one of our customers, they were running their entire $8 million a year hunting lodge on a spiral notebook! Cancellations? They had a blue line through them. Requested a specific guide? Those reservations had a red circle around them. Side-by-side out of service? Mark it with a yellow highlighter! It worked, but... We've had other customers that use huge wall calendars and dry erase boards.... how do you access those remotely? Take a picture and hope nothing has changed. You run a Dude Ranch and your guest experience is nothing like a hotel (and thankfully never will be). But what about the booking experience? Many guests are asking (especially first-timers), why is it so different and, frankly, shouldn't it be easier for them (and you) to do? After all they are just trying to give you $ and confirm their plans. Most guest ranchers have an admirable commitment to speaking with every potential guest on the phone. They rightfully want to ensure the ranch is a perfect fit for the ranch, and likewise they also want to learn if the guest is a good fit for them. What is lost in this noble objective is that it has become a barrier to booking. Gone are the days when two people are sitting at their desks taking extra time to cross their T's and dot their I's. The modern flow of screening calls, voicemail, text messages and instant gratification is the new norm. Furthermore, guests don't have time or see the need to be interviewed before they book their dream vacation. The way things are now is that the first rancher that makes themselves available when the guest is ready to book is the one most likely to win. And as all ranchers know, once a first-time guest discovers a great ranch, they don't take kindly to go looking for a new one. So if you don't capture that guest that could be 10 or even 20 years of good business going to your competitor. Technology has evolved and it's time for ranchers to flip the dynamic and quit leaving money on the table. Ranchers can successfully communicate expectations digitally, guests can search for availability and book or "request" a week. Ranchers can cut through the missed calls, long emails, easily collect a deposit and advance the conversation past back-and-forth logistics and get down to the brass tacks of planning the guest experience. For over a hundred years no hospitality experience provider has done it better. Ranchers have navigated challenge after challenge and have always risen above. The plain truth is that Dude Ranchers' can and will make it just as convenient to book their place as any old hotel. The only question is when...
