???????????????????? ??????, ???????????? ????????????????????, & ?????? ?????????? ?????????????????????? + ?? ?????????? ???????????????????? ?????? ????????! Read here: https://lnkd.in/gM33HnVB Happy Presidents Day! Since 1879, Americans have celebrated Presidents Day to commemorate the first president of the United States, George Washington. What made George Washington great and unique? You likely know he refused to be a king, and that he famously resigned his commission, and created (along with other founders) a representative government, with division of power and checks and balances. But what was the driving force behind Washington? George Washington's greatness can be understood in this way: he deliberately modeled himself after Roman ideals. He even earned the nickname The Cincinnatus of the West due to his earnest desire to emulate the great Roman general from the 5th century B.C., Cincinnatus. The historian Carl Richard makes the case in his book The Founders and the Classics that George III underestimated Washington's dedication to these Roman ideals, stating that if Washington resigned his commission (as Cincinnatus did) “he would be the greatest man in the world.” Richards continues, "The king’s confusion epitomized his inability, throughout the Revolutionary conflict, to comprehend the enormous emotional power which classical Republican ideals wielded over American minds." (p71) I don't believe it is possible to fully comprehend what it means to be an American without understanding what it means to be Roman. So many of our uniquely American ideas of freedom, Patriotism, destiny, piety, and government flow from Roman ideas, passed down and refined through 2,000 years of Christian thought. This Presidents Day, if you have never heard the story of the great Roman Cincinnatus, take 10 minutes, and watch the excerpt from Old Western Culture below with your family. You will hear about an ancient Roman General, but also about the founding father and first president of the United States, General George Washington. Happy Presidents Day from all of us at Roman Roads Press! Video + Presidents Day Sale: https://lnkd.in/gM33HnVB

I just ordered over 5,000 feet of our custom Old Western Culture packing tape, stocking up to prepare for the curriculum season at Roman Roads Press. 5,000 feet should get us through Spring! When you receive a book or curriculum from Roman Roads Press, you'll know it before even opening the box, and I like to think that a little taste of classical education and beauty are observed through the hundreds of miles and each stop the packages takes along the delivery route. Once opened up, you'll have more goodies in the form of bookmarks and other swag. Come study the great books, read a classic, acquire skills in Logic and Rhetoric, learn poetry, Latin, civics, history, Calculus, and more at RomanRoadsPress.com! #classicaleducation
