Excerpts from a recent interview with RollDeep Founder Dave Erwin.

When is the best time to boost your guests' excitement? Right after they've finished the booking process. Travel, especially group travel, is exciting. Coordinating all the details and getting agreement from everyone, however, can be a real drag. Many people reflexively forget about their trip for a while once the high level details are locked in. They, so to speak, fall onto the couch in exhaustion and take a nap. Many of those folks don't feel the excitement again until it's time to get going. One of the side quests for our product team is to keep the excitement going from booking all the way through the trip. We are cooking up a very exciting introduction to the area that will help people transition from the nuts and bolts to the arts and crafts of trip planning. The result: more fulfilling trips, more time spent cackling in excitement leading up to the trip, and more of everything else that keeps this whole industry alive. Many people's first reaction to RollDeep is, "oh, another experience marketplace." I understand this reaction, as experience marketplaces are the standard across the #proptech experience industry. We are taking a different approach. RollDeep is a network. Direct partnerships between local businesses/service providers and hosts are the best way to help travelers realize deep, authentic travel experiences while keeping more travel dollars in local economies. Before starting RollDeep, we were short term rental hosts who spent a lot of time referring our guests to small businesses in our area. When we started looking for ways to formalize these relationships, we found that the major travel experience software platforms were designed to cut us, hosts, out of the deal. We initially thought of RollDeep as a bespoke tool for us to use with our vendors. When we told folks what we were up to, however, every last person said "I WANT THAT!" Most then dove into personal stories of how it would have helped their own businesses and/or travel experiences. We realized we were confronting a problem shared across the industry. So we rethought our idea at the scale of the industry. Instead of just us connecting our properties with the local economy, we built a network that allows all hosts to connect with the local services that would enhance their guests' trips, increase their bottom line, and keep more dollars in their local economies. Meet The Kemble Berkshires, the latest property to go live on the RollDeep network. It is owned and managed by Shared Estates Fund and is one of the highest grossing short term rental properties in Massachusetts. Travelers are now using RollDeep to find property information, area recommendations, and to purchase house services and services from local businesses. Before RollDeep, Kemble house services were buried in welcome packets or communicated ad hoc. The managers were creating and tracking custom invoices. Referrals were generating six figures revenues for local businesses, but there was no profit sharing or even any way to track these partnerships. We worked with the managers to integrate their house services, event services and local business partnerships directly into the same interface that travelers use to get their door code. There are few things we love more than helping hosts find simple ways to delight guests while increasing their bottom line... then providing them with the tools to make it happen. Take "Food in the Fridge", for example. Most short-term rental guests are only with us for two or three nights. Yet so many of them spend hours on arrival shopping in local supermarkets, often the same chains they have at home... Not only is this precious trip time wasted, but it also lowers the authenticity quotient of the trip.
