Rodham Institute's Director of Workforce Development, Ms. Veronica Wright was invited to give her expertise at the Canadian Apprenticeship Forum (CAF-FCA) recently. Thank you France Daviault, MA, CAE for the invite!
Great visit to DC continues for Canadian Apprenticeship Forum (CAF-FCA). Yesterday I met with Jennie Niles from CityWorks DC and was truly inspired by the great work being done working with youth. Finished the day with a meeting with Philip Minardi and team Co-Founder of BuildWithin (sorry forgot to take a pic!) - an established tech company with active apprenticeships in the tech sector and who host a platform for tracking apprenticeship training progress. Today, another busy day meeting with Emily Price from HBI (Home Builders Institute), Tom Kriger and Benjamin Kreider from NABTU, Veronica Wright from Rodham Institute, and John Ladd and his team at the U.S. Department of Labor. Great conversations and more to come! Thanks again John Colborn and René Bryce-Laporte from Apprenticeships for America for organizing the week. Seems like there is significant interest in Canada's Red Seal Canada program! Due to inclement weather and extremely cold temperatures tomorrow evening we have decided to postpone our screening of "Trashman" to a later date. Please stand by for a new date coming soon.
Rodham Institute is excited to be showing a screening of "Trashman" hosted by Georgetown University Center for Health Equity at SE Tennis and Learning Center on Wednesday, January 17th from 6 - 8:30 pm. RSVP - ?? https://lnkd.in/e9qNvuK7 Trashman?is a personal exploration of the filmmaker Lawrence Green neighborhood trash pollution problem and what community activists in Ward 8 Washington, D.C. are doing to solve this issue. Trashman spotlights Ward 8 Woods, a Washington, D.C. based non-profit organization and their dedicated staff and volunteers as they restore woodlands and clean city streets filled with trash. Trashman compares the stark differences between the maintenance of Rock Creek Park located in a wealthier section of Washington, D.C. to parklands in Ward 8, a less affluent area of the city. Trashman dives into whether environmental issues are important in Ward 8 and who’s responsible for the filmmaker’s neighborhood trash pollution problem. I am grateful for Proclamations from Maryland Governor Wes Moore, Prince George's?County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, Montgomery County Executive Marc B. Erlich, and Washington DC City Council recognizing that November is Lung Cancer Awareness month and the importance of Lung Cancer education, screening, and early?treatment. On this last day of November, I acknowledge?the welcome letter to the American Medical Association as we held our HOD?Interim Meeting in Prince George's County, Maryland at National Harbor earlier this month. The support of the signatories to increase awareness of Lung Cancer prevention, screening, and treatments is greatly appreciated. The American Lung Association and many others recommend annual screening for lung cancer with low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) in adults aged 50 to 80 years who have a 20 pack-year smoking history and currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years. Thank you, Raymond Tu MD MS FACR for spearheading this initiative and Loralie Ma for your strong work. Please see the first paragraph: Welcome American Medical Association (AMA) to the Gaylord National Resort?and Convention Center, National Harbor Maryland. We wish you a successful House of Delegates Interim Meeting to be held from November 11 to November 14, 2023. We the undersigned recognize November as “Lung Cancer Awareness Month.” According to the American Lung Association, more people die from lung cancer annually than any other type of cancer, exceeding the total deaths caused by breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and prostate cancer combined. The greatest risk factor for lung cancer is duration and quantity of smoking, according to the American Cancer Society with 80% of lung cancer deaths are known to be from smoking. Black Americans have the highest risk of developing lung cancer. Screening?for lung cancer with annual low-dose CT scans?among those at high risk?can reduce the lung cancer death rate by up to 20% by detecting tumors at early stages when they are more likely to be curable.
