Thank you to The Advocate for including RMEQ in this story. It is dangerous that a hateful organization like Gays Against Groomers was able to game the system to appear credible. The governor’s administration has released a statement articulating that ‘this request was not appropriately vetted’ and ‘does not constitute any formal support from the governor or his administration.’ This is an opportunity for the governor and all community leaders to denounce Gays Against Groomers and call this organization what it is – a hate group, dangerous to kids and dangerous to the LGBTQ community.

Today is the 11th work anniversary of RMEQ executive director Mardi Moore. Born and raised in rural Colorado, she has worked ceaselessly during her time at the helm of Out Boulder and now Rocky Mountain Equality to build, strengthen, and serve the LGBTQ+ communities across the state. A Colorado court ruling says schools that are state funded must comply with Colorado's nondiscrimination rules for LGBTQ+ students. Senior U.S. District Judge John L. Kane wrote: "“The purpose of the requirement is not to invade religious freedom but to further the implementation of a strongly embraced public value.”

Today is National Voter Registration Day. Are you registered and ready to vote in the November election? You’re voting for more than a presidential candidate when you cast your ballot in this election. Freedom is on the ballot in Colorado – our freedom to marry and our freedom to make our own healthcare decisions. Vote yes on Amendment J to remove the outdated ban on same-sex marriage still in our state constitution. And vote yes on Amendment 79 to make abortion a guaranteed right in the Colorado Constitution. It’s time to remove the outdated ban on same-sex marriage from the Colorado state constitution, and you can this November by voting YES on Amendment J on your ballot. You might think: “Why do we need to worry about protecting same-sex marriage if it’s legal in the United States?” The Supreme Court ruling that protects same-sex marriage at the federal level isn’t guaranteed forever. Recently, the Supreme Court has reversed many long-standing protections—from abortion access to voting rights. We can’t rely on politicized courts alone.
