Yesterday’s concert, where students and professional musicians played beside one another as contemporaries, was just a taste of what sorts of opportunities students can expect from their workshop experience. We're incredibly grateful to be awarded a grant from the Institution for Savings Charitable Foundation to support Rockport Music's Cape Ann Youth Chorus. The chorus, founded in 2024, provides a comprehensive musical experience in an inclusive and supportive environment for young singers ages 8 and up. Singers participate in weekly rehearsals, performances at community events and concerts at the Shalin Liu Performance Center, such as this one in December alongside jazz icon David Benoit. This morning, students at O'Maley Innovation Middle School and Rockport Middle School enjoyed a visit by Boston's Soggy Po Boys ahead of their concert this Thursday! The Soggy Po Boys spread the joy of New Orleans music throughout the Northeast by means of both education and concert, this time as part of Rockport Music's Education and Community Engagement program. ABOUT WRITING OUR MUSICAL HISTORY: Throughout the 2023-24 school year, students in Rockport, Gloucester, Manchester Essex Regional and Beverly high schools got a unique opportunity to create a song about a place in their town that is meaningful to them. Funded by a grant from Essex County Community Foundation's Creative County Initiative as well as support from?Applied Materials Materials, budding songwriters, singers and musicians worked with teaching artist?Alexandra Grace?to create lyrics and harmonies and to learn in-depth details about the song writing process from start to finish.
