Preparing Youth for a Successful Manufacturing Career

Rocket Academy is a tuition-free, public charter school for 11th and 12th grade students in the manufacturing space authorized by the Cedar Grove-Belgium School District. The Rocket Academy will offer traditional graduation required courses, math, science, english, etc. in a non-traditional format where standards are taught in a more applied manner. The school opened for the 2023-24 school year offering one career focused pathway, Precision Machining, that teaches both manual mill and lathe skills and then progress to CNC Operational training. In the 2024-25 school year, we will be adding HVAC, Welding and Electro-Mechanical Technician Pathways. All pathways are delivered as dual credit courses through Lakeshore Technical College so students will graduate with not only a high school diploma, but also a 1-year certificate in one of the pathways and potentially multiple industry certifications that should make them very competitive job seekers and allow them to make an immediate impact for their future employers.

Humbled and proud to be present for today's ribbon-cutting at the Rocket Academy Charter School's new facility which is housed within the Cedar Grove-Belgium School District. This school fully immerses 11th and 12th graders into technical career pathways during their school day, with each student having the goal of earning a minimum of a 1-year technical diploma and completing a Youth Apprentice experience through our CESA's. A phenomenal opportunity for students, parents, area employers! What started as just an idea from Chad Brakke has blossomed into an amazing place. Rocket Academy Dual Credit Advanced Technology Center's new home is opening very soon and we've got 25 high school students enrolled for this 2nd year. It has been David Friend's leadership and Cedar Grove-Belgium School District's, Lakeshore Technical College's, and Lakeland University's unwavering support that has made this happen - thanks to everyone! If you are interested in a different kind of high school education - one that starts with technical training and job placements in high school and pathways to bachelors degrees in management and engineering if you want them - come check us out!

It's going to be a BIG year for Rocket Academy Dual Credit Advanced Technology Center! Not only is Rocket Academy's new home rapidly progressing for occupancy within the next 2 months, but the current enrollment for the '24-'25 School is now at 25 students and counting, which includes 15 students in the brand new HVAC Program! Huge shout out to David Friend and his entire team at the Cedar Grove-Belgium School District for their tireless efforts this Summer, and of course the incredible education and community partners who support Rocket Academy through the Governance Board and vital engagement. Well done everyone - it's going to be an incredible Year Two!

Rocket Academy, a public charter school, offers advanced manufacturing and technology courses that not only provide students with valuable skills but also count towards college credit.
