It's my work anniversary, so let's reflect on that year a bit - and what a year it has been! Last year I left a job that I loved, for a family that I loved more. I wanted to build something for myself. At the time, I wasn’t sure where it would lead, but I knew one thing: I needed work that fit around my life, not the other way around. Now, a year in, I’m celebrating not just the success of my business but also the fact that I’ve found a way to balance running a company while home-educating my youngest boy. Home education is often met with scepticism. People assume it’s isolating, that children will miss out, that parents can’t possibly provide the same level of education as a school. But the reality is very different. We have access to a huge range of learning opportunities from expert-led online classes, to hands-on experiences in the real world. My son can deep dive into subjects that spark his curiosity, learn at his own pace, and develop a love of learning without the constraints of a one-size-fits-all system. Yes, home ed requires A LOT of patience, commitment and creativity, but for us, it’s not about rejecting schools. It’s about choosing a path that allows our son to thrive. And in an education system where so many children, particularly those with SEND, struggle to get the support they need, this choice has been life-changing.
