Detroit is a tech hub. In 2009, Dan Gilbert did an interview with CNN in which he shared his vision of Detroit becoming a tech hub. Thanks to people like Johnnie and Alexa Turnage of Black Tech Saturdays, that vision has become a reality. Listen as they talk about how they started one of the most innovative and collaborative tech groups in America. "You will see it when you believe it!"

What started as five people in a room has grown into a thriving movement. Black Tech Saturdays is more than an event—it’s a catalyst for opportunity, connection, and progress in Detroit’s tech scene. Johnnie and Alexa Turnage had a vision: Why not Detroit? With the right support, they knew they could create something powerful. Dan Gilbert and the Family of Companies have championed that vision from the start, alongside the Gilbert Family Foundation, helping to fuel growth, provide resources and connect innovators. Doing well by doing good.
We're proud to announce our $1.5 million investment in the "Authentic Eastern Market" campaign, partnering with Eastern Market Partnership to strengthen Detroit's vibrant food economy and advance equity in urban farming! A cornerstone of this initiative is the Shed 7 Regional Wholesale Distribution Center, which will provide dedicated space and resources for Detroit-based BIPOC farmers to scale their operations. This project will initially support 14 small business entrepreneurs, creating 28 full-time equivalent jobs with potential for further growth. Together with other foundation partners, we're working to ensure that Eastern Market continues to serve as an engine for economic mobility and sustainable urban agriculture. (Special thank you to Brandi Brown, Linda Nosegbe, JJ Vélez and Cayla Chamberlin!) Learn More: https://bit.ly/3QnUrv2
