"You all make miracles happen every day, and I am living proof of that." - Sydney Pelusio, RRH Patient This morning, we were honored to host Sydney and her family at Rochester General Hospital, where she reconnected with the team who saved her life and shared her incredible story with the community. In March 2024, Sydney, a healthy 32 year old mom of two, started to feel flu-like symptoms. When she failed to get better, she went to urgent care. Her providers quickly realized something was wrong, and advised her to go to the hospital as soon as possible. Upon entering the doors of the emergency department at Unity Hospital, Sydney collapsed - her heart was failing. The Interventional Cardiology team at Unity immediately began lifesaving measures, while Sydney's condition continued to deteriorate. Shortly afterward, her heart stopped. Through the lifesaving actions of her care team at Unity, and later, Rochester General Hospital, Sydney survived - and would go on to make an almost miraculous recovery. Many, many thanks to Sydney, for sharing her story, and to the 50+ team members across Rochester Regional Health who played a crucial role in her survival and recovery, making sure she would be able to spend this holiday season with her loved ones. ?? For every life-changing moment (and every happy reunion), we're here for it. ??

This recent accolade reflects the exceptional care and dedication of our team at the Lipson Cancer Institute, which was also recently accredited as a Network Cancer Program by the American College of Surgeons – making Rochester General Hospital & Unity Hospital the only network of cancer centers in upstate New York to receive this honor. We're incredibly proud of the work that this team does every day, advancing cancer care in our area and nationally, via compassionate, whole-person treatments, cutting-edge clinical trials, and life-changing research. We had a great time at our "Scrubs Club" this month! The event, which was open to local children in grades K-5, gave attendees an introduction to the world of healthcare careers at an age-appropriate level. Kids participated in activities from hands-on first aid and CPR basics, to exploring the world of surgery, and of course, a teddy bear clinic for our littlest participants. ?? For the past 5 years, our Mobile Mammography Unit ?? has been on the move across our communities, bringing essential breast cancer screenings to patients in 8 counties, including areas where patients may have a difficult time accessing mammography services. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month (and all year round!) we are especially grateful for the hard work of our Mobile Mammography team, to the community organizations who have sponsored this essential service, and to the many partners we've had over the years who have hosted screening events. ?? With a brand new hospital entrance, expanded main lobby and private registration rooms, expanded Emergency Department and new ED entrance, 60 private medical/surgical rooms, and new nurses' stations, this state-of-the-art, 108,000 square foot expansion will be an incredible resource to our patients and team members in the St. Lawrence region.
