ROC Stop Seizures

**UPDATE** We are now two full weeks into the ROC Stop Seizures #shoedrive! Please go through your closets and storage, ask your neighbors and friends, and recruit any organizations and businesses to join in the collection. We are looking for any age, gender, and size shoes that are gently worn, used or new to help raise funds for ROC Stop Seizures and help developing countries create jobs and get shoes to those who are in need. We have THREE drop off locations now. One of ROC Stop Seizures' supporters donated this amazing vacation package to either Hawaii or Ireland. Originally purchased for their self and before any reservations could be made, they found that they would not be able to use it allowing ROC Stop Seizures the opportunity to auction it to further its mission to raise awareness for those with Epilepsy and Veterans with Battle Induced Seizure Disorders. https://lnkd.in/gCCEetrv

The VFW in Winter Springs has been so kind and supportive to host this painting party for ROC Stop Seizures. There are only a couple days left to register. DID YOU KNOW? The artist Van Gogh had seizures believed to be Epilepsy that he treated with digitalis. Digitalis was a prescription drug with a side effect that causes one to see yellow or see yellow spots. Van Gogh used a lot of yellows in his work. Van Gogh also painted a self portrait that was in recent years found hidden behind another painting. Not unlike the hidden painting, Epilepsy and seizures are considered a hidden condition because it isn’t obvious to tell when someone has these conditions just by looking at the person.

Even if you don’t have Epilepsy or seizures the chances are you know someone who does and don’t even realize it. Learn about the stigmas and misconceptions that cause many to hide their conditions at one of our upcoming March events.

The VA has found that nearly 70% of Veterans with seizures were found to be a mixture of epileptic and non-epileptic, which can look very much alike. Non-epileptic seizures are likely caused by TBI and/or PTSD. An NIH study found that while art therapy helped both those with epileptic and those with non-epileptic seizures, people with non-epileptic seizures sculpted art differently than those with epilepsy. Should we run our own study with respect to painted art at the Paint Party for a Cause @ Winter Springs VFW?
