Guardant Health's Shield? blood test has received FDA approval for colorectal cancer (CRC) screening in average-risk individuals aged 45 and older. This innovative test is the first blood-based screening option approved by the FDA, providing a less invasive and more convenient alternative to traditional methods like colonoscopy and stool tests. Some of the most common first symptoms of multiple sclerosis (MS) include fatigue, weakness, and numbness. Unfortunately, these symptoms are also common across a range of other diseases such as diabetes, lupus, and other autoimmune diseases. This leads to frequent misdiagnoses and a long journey before receiving a definitive MS diagnosis. The delay in MS diagnosis impacts quality of life and treatment outcomes. Robust Diagnostics is part of a large community of researchers working to diagnose MS at its earliest stages for better treatment outcomes and better quality of life for those with MS. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a common herpesvirus that infects over 95% of the global population. EBV establishes a lifelong latent infection that evades the immune system. It has strong links to multiple sclerosis (MS), autoimmune disease and several cancers. EBV persists in B cells and intermittently reactivates which may contribute to disease processes as seen in MS. Our work at Robust focuses on developing innovative diagnostic methods to better understand and combat the impact of EBV. Current diagnostic methods for Alzheimer's disease (AD) have several limitations, making it challenging to achieve timely and accurate diagnosis. Structural MRI, while useful in identifying neurodegeneration, cannot distinguish AD from other neurodegenerative diseases and may not detect early AD stages. PET scans, although helpful in assessing neuronal dysfunction, also struggle with identifying co-pathologies. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis provides an earlier diagnostic window and is more comprehensive in predicting AD pathology than PET scans. However, it's invasive and costly. Blood-based biomarkers, however, offer a promising alternative. They are less invasive, more economical, and can enhance early diagnosis and intervention, making them a crucial focus in Alzheimer's research.
