Combining the strengths of people AND robots (vs. thinking in terms of people OR robots) gets you to what's possible right now, faster - and better. ?? #RobotsforHumans, in theory, is nice. In practice, it's intangible. ?? ?? AMR opportunity is in #collaboration and "real life" #EmbodiedAI. How does Carter? Pro work for people? See below. ??

Launching new products is an expectation. Your team, industry, and existing customers love it, but without the promise of real-life impact, it's "just another product" to everyone else. Carter? Pro is a robot built to work for people. It's design and purpose embodies Rodney Brooks' Three Laws of Robotics. These laws form the WHY and bigger-picture impact that mean everything to our team and brings a new level of #collaboration to the market. More on Carter Pro and Rodney's Three Laws in the comments ? #robotsforhumans ?? ??

Going gentle into the end of 2024 isn't on tap for us - or other companies who launched new products and services in October. There's exciting momentum coming out of the Carter? Pro announcement, and we can't wait to see new levels of #collaboration come to life in the coming months. In case this news is news to you, check out the release from last week's official launch: https://lnkd.in/e-CP_cmB #robotsforhumans ?? ??

To train and understand a robot in seconds, it needs to be designed for zero friction. Which is why this on-stage moment demonstrating ease of use is one of our favorites. To get a full recap of Robobusiness, including a follow-up chat between Rodney Brooks and Mike Oitzman, see the link in the comments ?

"If you want to change the world pick something that can be done reasonably.?See it. Understand it. And know that it works." If you weren't able to see Rodney Brooks' keynote or swing by at RoboBusiness, we wanted to give you a good look at Carter? Pro to end the week. Thank you to Steve Crowe and team for putting on a great show. It was a really positive experience for our San Carlos-based crew and a solid place to launch a new robot. That was one busy booth! #robotsforhumans ?? ??

Robots that respect people's personal spaces will have a higher chance of successful contact with with the human world than robots that ignore them. Most robots today treat people like any other obstacle in the physical environment. As a result, many robots zoom by people too closely and too quickly for comfort. Carter, the collaborative AMR from Robust.AI, notices and treats people with more respect than that. We designed its navigation behaviors to avoid startling and upsetting the people in its environment. It's easy to take these socially appropriate behaviors for granted because we give each other space without even thinking about it. However, those behaviors are things we had to learn. There was probably a time in your early childhood when the grownups in your life gave you feedback when you were got too close to other people, especially strangers. When we don't give each other sufficient personal space, it's immediately obviously and can go terribly wrong. People get offended and sometimes lash out at the offender. Many decades of social science research has repeatedly shown this. My favorite: Wolff, M. (1973). Notes on the behaviour of pedestrians. People in places: The sociology of the familiar, 35-48. I feel badly for those grad student experimenters, who got verbally abused for breaking the social norms of avoiding oncoming pedestrians in NYC. Social norms matter... even for robots. It's worth taking that knowledge into account in the design of robot behaviors. #personalspace #proxemics #pedestrianbehavior #workplacedynamics #socialnorms #humanrobotinteraction
