Today was moving day for the system we FAT'ed last week. Goal is Monday the equipment is put in place by the riggers, wired and plumbed by the facilities personnel and we can be on site to start installation. Plans are only plans, so we will see where this project takes us from here. #movingday #missingabow #automation #robotics

What a week it has been, but no better way to finish it than with a successful FAT. A special thanks to Amped Automation, LLC, Gibson Engineering, and Brian Mauri from COVAL for making this project a success. We will start getting everything ready for shipment on Monday. While we do have our own in house programmers, sometimes we have too much on the shop floor for us to handle at one time and it's great to have our trusted partner Amped Automation, LLC backfill our crew. They were able to get every last millisecond out of the system. We currently sit at a cycle time (from conveyor start to last part placed) of 8.2 seconds for 40 picks and places.
I had planned on posting something at least monthly here, but clearly time got away from me! The reality is that I've been too busy working with customers, and continually adding more. Of course, customers take a priority over posts, which is why this took so long. Still, one interesting project is for packaging plastic cutlery that I'm working on with Robotic Advantage. The customer's machine delivers 40 parts every 11.5 seconds, and we have to convey them to the robots, image them because they arrive with varying spacing and some angles to the parts, and then pick and place them. The Epson America Inc. GX8 robot does this handily, and we already have the system running below the cycle time spec. There's more tuning to do, but it's impressive to see how fast they run. Note, this video was originally taken in slow-mo, so I had to speed it up artificially to replicate real time, which is why it looks a little funny... but I assure you, the robots are doing their job in about 8 seconds total. It's far more impressive in person, and kinda scary! Again, this is just another example of the work Amped Automation does, and how we work with customers and integrators along the way.

After some serious debugging we have started to stress test the system and optimize the code to reduce our cycle times. These Epson Robots GX-8 systems are up and running at 100 percent speed. Next up is making sure all of the robots are triggering the dials to rotate and the bins to empty. We will keep you posted. #epsonrobots #highspeed #automation #robotics

We may have been silent for a few weeks but it has paid off. Today the team was able to get the first of 3 Epson Robots GX-8 robots picking parts using vision guidance. The cycle time is 3.107 seconds for 5 picks and 1 place. This is all just initial programming so with some optimization we are looking at a sub 3 second cycle time. We are certainly going to enjoy this weekend seeing the hard work pay off on the way out the door. #epson #visionguided #automation #SUPERfast

What a week it has been and what a way to end it. A first of its kind for Robotic Advantage with the installation of a mobile HMI station. With the system being 6 meters long there was no great place to put a static station and be able to see and adjust everything. Instead we took a ROLEC ENCLOSURES INC custom HMI enclosure and mounted it to Robotunits Inc. extrusion complete with their linear rail and roller accessories. Now there is not a place along the front of the system where cannot control it. #mobileHMI #firsttimesuccess #automation #robotics

Pictured below is a rotary dial that will mate up with a bowl feeder. Once a part enters the dial and breaks the fiber optic beam, it will rotate to enable the robot to pick the part all the while the next part is entering the dial. The process will continue until we run out of parts. This setup will enable us to do a part pick every 2-3 seconds. #bowlfeeder #rotarydial #automation #robotics
