We are getting excite about Vincennes University – BlazerGIVE Day this year! Our company is giving to the Nancy J. Robinson Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is for students that have been in the foster care system and enrolled in any major. First, you may ask who is Nancy J. Robinson which the scholarship is name after? Why is this scholarship set up for students that were in foster care system. Nancy was the mother of Jason A. Robinson. She passed away from cancer on March 4, 1996. She always hoped that her kids would grow up and do great in life. After his mother passing, he lived with his grandfather until he passed away then Jason was in high school. So, Jason part into foster care until he graduated high school. After high school, he attended Vincennes University and earned an A.A.S. degree in Architectural Studies/CAD and B.S. degree in Technology (The first graduating class for the B.S. or B.A. degree at V.U.) Based on Jason’s story, this is why the scholarship was set up for students that were in foster care system. Here is Mr. Robinson’s statement from a letter that send to the university to set up the scholarship: ? “The Nancy J. Robinson Scholarship is being established for students who have been in the foster care system and lack family support. Usually, students that are coming out of foster care system are the first in their family to go to college. Since they are the first ones to go to college, they face a lot of challenges due to the lack of family support. Family support could be a lot of things ranging from helping with the finances or a way to pay for college to a support system (encouragement, guidance, etc.). It is that hope that Nancy J. Robinson Scholarship can help a student that is coming out of the foster care system with paying for college, but let that student know someone believes in them.” ?
