New York City has a robust network of food providers aimed to make access to food easier for those struggling to feed themselves and/or their families. Despite the distribution of more than 230 million pounds of food to emergency food providers, food insecurity remains persistent and pervasive in NYC. Join us on our podcast “This Robin Hood Moment” as we meet with Jilly Stephens, CEO of City Harvest, as she paints a picture of how the profile of food pantry users has changed dramatically since the COVID-19 pandemic, and how 2-in-3 pantry users are not who you think they are. ?? At Robin Hood’s 35th annual Heroes Breakfast, we honored the Accelerate, Complete, and Engage (ACE) Program at the The City University of New York (CUNY); Social Creatures Inc. and their Bonded by Baby program; and The State University of New York (SUNY) — and met the incredible individuals whose stories exemplify their impact: Gabriel, Allie, and SUNY Chancellor John B. King, Jr. These individuals exemplify what it means to overcome incredible obstacles, no matter the odds. They remind us that given the right opportunities, New Yorkers not only step up for themselves, their families, and their communities – they become the heroes they were always meant to be. Today, with our community partner City Harvest at Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen in Chelsea, Robin Hood CEO Richard Buery joined City Harvest CEO Jilly Stephens, Ryan Vinh from the Center on Poverty and Social Policy at Columbia University, and Rev. Dr. Anna S. Pearson to unveil Robin Hood and Columbia University’s Poverty Tracker report on food insecurity in NYC. With 1-in-3 New Yorkers and 44% of families with children experienced food hardship in 2023, it's clear that pantry use among New Yorkers is becoming more of the norm, with use among NYC's working adults remaining twice as high as before the pandemic levels. The discussion shed light on the vital role food pantries play in NYC’s safety net, serving families, working individuals, and communities who rely on them to make ends meet. Special thanks to City Harvest and Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen for hosting this important event and for the incredible work they do every day to fight hunger in our city. ?? This Thanksgiving season, Robin Hood and Center on Poverty and Social Policy at Columbia University’s annual Food Poverty Tracker Spotlight Report reveals stark truths about food hardship in New York City: ?? 1 in 3 adult New Yorkers and 44% of families with children faced food hardship in 2023. ?? 1 in 3 New Yorkers used a food pantry post-pandemic, with 2 in 3 pantry users being working adults. This report, presented at a press event, hosted by City Harvest and its food distribution partner Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen, underscores the vital role food pantries play in NYC. As our city grapples with economic strains, food pantries have evolved into essential support systems, enabling families to stay fed. It’s a call to action for all of us to consider how we can support our city’s safety net and ensure no New Yorker goes hungry. https://lnkd.in/emMG6wAR #PovertyTracker #FightPoverty

Robin Hood recently hosted a Corporate Engagement Day with our partners at iMentor, bringing together 11th- and 12th-grade students and corporate partners for an inspiring day of mentorship and skill-building! From elevator pitches to SMART goal exercises, the event featured a series of volunteer activities, followed by a powerful panel discussion with Robin Hood Board Member and Blue Ridge Capital Founder John Griffin, Robin Hood CEO Richard Buery and Chief Program & Impact Officer Matthew Klein, and iMentor CEO Dr. Heather Wathington, moderated by our Managing Director of Partnerships Hana Haile-Mariam. This day highlighted the critical role mentorship plays, not just for students, but also for corporate partners, as we work together to build the next generation of leaders. iMentor, founded by John Griffin alongside Richard Buery and Matt Klein, has grown from serving 49 students in the South Bronx to over 42,000 students nationwide—including in New York City, Chicago, the Bay Area, and Baltimore. We are proud to support such impactful work through our partnership with iMentor. Are you interested in joining a Corporate Engagement Day? At Paul Hastings, fostering thought leadership between the nonprofit community and our people and clients is central to our commitment to corporate social responsibility and our city. In our new #PHNonprofitSpotlightSeries, we hosted a conversation between Robin Hood CEO Richard Buery Jr. and Paul Hastings Partner Shawn Kodes. The dialogue highlighted Robin Hood's mission to combat poverty and inequality, emphasizing education as a key driver of economic mobility. Rich underscored the pivotal role of learning opportunities, stressing the importance of achieving key milestones in reading and math for school-age children to break the cycle of poverty. This reinforces one of our community outreach initiatives that we launched last school year focused on mentoring through dedicated reading sessions with elementary-aged children. Rich's poignant reminder that "Hopelessness is the enemy of justice," attributed to Bryan Stevenson, resonated deeply, reinforcing the significance of perseverance in our community upliftment endeavors. Witnessing how meaningful connections can pave the way for impactful solutions was truly inspiring. I am grateful for the chance to facilitate this dialogue and creating catalytic conversations to empower impactful work. Thank you Robin Hood’s team - Hana Haile-Mariam, Kate Davis, and Chris Campbell - for all of your partnership!
