Envisioning a global society where the universal principles of equality, fairness and justice prevail.

关于我们

The Robert H. Jackson Center, in Jamestown, NY, is a non-profit dedicated to promoting liberty under law, through the examination of the life and work of Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson (1892-1954), and its relevance to current events and issues. Justice Jackson, who grew up in Frewsburg, NY, near Jamestown, had a monumentally significant impact on national and world affairs as United States Department of Justice Solicitor General, Attorney General, and Associate Supreme Court Justice, and as the architect of and the Chief U.S. Prosecutor at the International Military Tribunal (the Nuremberg Trials, after World War II). Since its founding in 2000, the Jackson Center has worked to “advance public awareness and appreciation of the principles of justice and the rule of law”. We educate and inspire, working to counter the threats of inequality, unfairness, and injustice. By examining and sharing Justice Jackson’s life and work, the Jackson Center brings a vitally important perspective and appreciation to current events and issues facing communities worldwide today. The Jackson Center’s work informs the dialogues taking place in classrooms, at community and corporate leadership tables, and within institutions of higher learning and public policy around the nation and the world. We impact lives through our Young Readers program, college student internships, teacher workshops, symposiums and curated exhibits for practitioners, scholars, and an engaged community. We initiate education, training, and research resulting in informed scholarship, improved practices, and productive partnerships. Through our commitment to “liberty under law”, we widen the audience and deepen the dialogues taking place in every corner of the globe to change lives and the future for the better.

  • The Robert H. Jackson Center will be closed on Thursday and Friday for a planned staff retreat. During this time, our team will also be paying respects at the funeral of Arthur Bailey, a valued board member who recently passed away. We will resume regular operations on Monday. Thank you for your understanding as we take this time to honor our colleague's memory and strengthen our organizational vision.

  • The Robert H. Jackson Center mourns the loss of Arthur Bailey, whose vision and generosity helped build our organization. He was a devoted and conscientious Board member, deeply supportive of our work, because of his admiration for Justice Jackson, his legacy, and the Center’s mission. He was never at a loss for ideas to help the Center grow and improve. May his memory be a blessing.

  • ????On the third anniversary of Russia's unlawful invasion of Ukraine, the Robert H. Jackson Center reaffirms its support for accountability and the pursuit of justice. Jackson's words at Nuremberg still resonate: "The common sense of mankind demands that law shall not stop with the punishment of petty crimes by little people. It must also reach men who possess themselves of great power." For an update on the future of prosecution against the Russian President and others in his administration, see the link for a panel discussion with legal scholars sponsored by the Ukrainian Bar Association and Others held earlier this month, see this link:?https://lnkd.in/eTBPVmBg #JusticeForUkraine #InternationalLaw #Nuremberg

President Franklin Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066 on this day in 1942,?which excluded civilians from defined military zones on the West Coast. This led to the forced removal and incarceration of nearly 120,000 Japanese and Japanese-Americans, who had not been convicted of any crime, into concentration camps. ? • "The prosecutor has more control over life, liberty, and reputation?than any other person in America."? When Robert H. Jackson took on the role of Attorney General, he knew the weight that came with it. Within three months, on April 1, 1940, he gave a speech in which he told all assembled U.S. Attorneys just how important their role was. His wise words still inspire. • ?? On this day in 1892: A Local Legend Was Born From Spring Creek, PA to Frewsburg, NY, to Jamestown to DC, Robert H. Jackson's remarkable journey from a law apprentice to Supreme Court Justice shows the power of determination and intellect. Without a college degree, Jackson became a respected lawyer in Western NY before serving as U.S. Attorney General under FDR, serving on the Supreme Court AND leading the prosecution of Nazi war criminals at Nuremberg. From defining the limits of executive power to forming the basis for international justice, Jackson's work still resonates powerfully in our world. Today we celebrate his birthday and lasting legacy. Join us tonight at the Warren County Courthouse or online for Jackson Day in Warren, with a keynote address by Acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania, Troy Rivetti on the role of the Federal Prosecutor. #OnThisDay #JacksonDay #Nuremberg #SupremeCourt #WNY https://lnkd.in/ed8yiTZx
