Congratulations to our longtime volunteer and friend Maria Garcia and producer David Sawicki on the release of "We Made San Diego – For All!" This powerful documentary, screening at this year’s San Diego Film Week Festival, includes a moving feature on the origins of San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House. Connie Hernandez, one of our founding members, shares the inspiring journey of seven families--the Hernandez's, DeLauriers, Gillhams, Hallisays, Romeros, Roses and Shapiros--who joined forces with Dr. Donald Schwartz, social worker Irma Gusfield, and Children's Hospital of San Diego (now Rady Children's) to establish a "home away from home" for families with children in the hospital in 1980.? ? Our incredible friends from Nuffer, Smith and Tucker came to serve dinner to families at San Diego's Ronald McDonald House, providing comfort and care in our home away from home.? ? But that's not all! Nuffer, Smith and Tucker also brought home the PRSA Edward L. Bernays Mark of Excellence Award for their outstanding work on our 2024 Red Shoe Day media relations campaign. Their dedication and talent not only won them this award in the nonprofit category, but also the Best in Show award across all bronze nominations. A standing ovation for their achievement! ? ? Please join us in celebrating Ronald McDonald House Charities on their 50th Anniversary ???? In 1974, the first Ronald McDonald House opened in Philadelphia, and in 1980, our San Diego community launched its House making it the 19th House in a now global network of 390 Ronald McDonald Houses in 48 countries. As the network has grown, so too have we expanded our San Diego House to aid more families with a range of serious medical conditions. As we look to the coming decades, we are proud to partner with other leading Houses and RMHC-Global in working toward the next level of care by developing new, research-based programs and services to ensure the best outcomes for the whole family. We send our congratulations and appreciation for RMHC-Global’s fifty years of leadership.
