Understanding women's history is integral to understanding the American experience! The women’s suffrage movement in Tennessee began in the late 19th century with activists forming suffrage organizations such as the Tennessee Equal Suffrage Association (TESA). Prominent figures like Anne Dallas Dudley of Nashville emerged as leaders in the movement. Dudley, a charismatic and well-connected activist, helped establish the Nashville Equal Suffrage League in 1911. Her work in organizing parades, speeches, and campaigns brought national attention to the suffrage cause in Tennessee.
