We are proud to announce a significant legal victory achieved by our firm, lead by attorneys Rhonda Mills and Howard Gaddis, as part of a larger team of defense counsel in a complex civil litigation case in Texas State Court. Our client, a prominent Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) organization, faced a multi-faceted lawsuit filed by former members who were expelled and subsequently reported for alleged embezzlement of organization funds. The plaintiffs, who were arrested and investigated but ultimately not charged, claimed that the investigation was a malicious "witch hunt" designed to defame and harm them. The plaintiffs sought over $240,000,000 in damages, alleging breach of contract, abuse of process, malicious prosecution, defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent misrepresentation, negligent hiring, breach of fiduciary duty, and civil conspiracy. The case garnered significant local media attention, further complicating the matter. Our legal team, working collaboratively with other defense counsel, meticulously crafted a series of summary judgment motions, challenging the plaintiffs' claims on multiple fronts. They successfully demonstrated that the plaintiffs had not sustained any damages, had not been defamed, and that no contract had been breached. Additionally, they established that our client owed no duty to the plaintiffs. The court concurred with their arguments, resulting in the dismissal of all claims against our client through summary judgment. This take-nothing judgment not only vindicated our client but also underscored our firm's expertise in handling high-stakes litigation. This outcome exemplifies our commitment to providing exceptional legal representation and achieving favorable results for our clients. Resnick & Louis is thrilled to share another significant legal victory! Attorney Jonathan Allen successfully defended our client in a high-exposure landlord liability case involving a serious injury to a minor. The plaintiff alleged that the landlord was responsible for a tragic incident involving two large dogs, with the potential for seven-figure exposure. The Eleventh Court of Appeals upheld the District Court’s dismissal, finding that the plaintiff failed to provide sufficient evidence showing that the landlord had actual knowledge of the dogs’ dangerous behavior. This appellate win underscores our firm's legal expertise and our commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for our clients.
